Yes, I'm old.
I watched Bob Beamon in 1968 as a pre-teen and still remember the jump and the excitement. It was fantastic.

If only someone had run over Horan at that F1 race. De Lima was far more accepting of that sporting atrocity than I would ever have been. Obviously, I could never run anywhere near the level of an Olympian. Moreover, I also cannot imagine having that temperament to get back into the race and still run well enough to hold third--and accept so well. I had not remembered that he lit the Olympic flame in 2016. A true champion.

I might add Tommy Smith and John Carlos in 1968.

Excuse me! It's a big shame you haven't mentioned Emil Zátopek who won three events in the Helsinki Olympic games in 1952:
5000 m, 10000 m and marathon!!Nobody will ever achieve this phenomenal feat ever again!!

What about Al Oerter? Won four consecutive Olympic gold medals in the same event. At the 1964 Olympics he competed with a severe neck injury and torn rib cartilage and in agony on his fifth throw broke the Olympic record. Always, track, track. The discus is one of the oldest events and was thrown during ancient times in Greece. Sorry, seems so track biased.

Wonder how patriotic do you have to be if you go grab the American flag to rep it...i guess we're not storming the capital or going to fight wars just to say we served

At 10:46 (number 2) you said the 1960 Olympics' Wilma Rudolphf was "an athlete who ran faster than anyone else on Earth". That is nowhere close to correct. Hundreds of men & boys on Earth had run faster than she did as of 1960.
