In our county, you have to have an engineer come to the property and do a soil survey. Based on that survey, you are told type of system can be used. Honestly I believe they are making everyone install aerobic systems as a matter of policy rather than results from the soil test. But I digress.
This was in 2019. I was able to buy my aerobic system from the manufacturer and did a self install. Tank and all of the pipe and sprinklers was 3500 dollars. I dug and levelled the hole, trenched for the pipe, did literally everything except set the tank (which I paid the manufacturer, a cement company about 40 miles away, 150 dollars to do when they delivered.)
I bought a $10k backhoe for my little Kubota L2501 to do the digging and still came out a few thousand ahead from what the lowest bid septic company would have charged. That backhoe has been one of the most useful purchases we made. County did two inspections, one before the tank was set and one after but before any pipe or the tank was buried.
I believe they have changed the regulations now, and self install is no longer an option. Either that or Comal Concrete isn't selling to anyone except for licensed installers anymore.

Man alive 6 grand what a blessing. I am in NC. Our system is 65-70 years old. It just gave out week after Christmas. We have been without a septic system for going on 9 weeks now. Finally for the county permit two weeks ago. I am in NC. Pretty sure our new tank will be basically the same thing as yours (the original one was block and mortar olddddd) the new system will have a gravel base. Entire front yard is full of gravel piles. New system will have a D box that feeds 4 lines. Should flow well since it will being going down my slope beside the house. Anyway it has been a rough nine weeks here with three small kids. Now you ready for my cost 11,500. Oh well I’m just ready to have it done and back in service. And that 11,500 it’s really more than that if you could in repairing the yard straw fertilizer and seed etc. heck let’s penny crunch it diesel fuel for the kubota working the yard etc lol oh well we are beyond ready for it to be completed. Enjoyed the video.

Appreciate you actually breaking down real numbers here — so many videos show the install but skip the cost, which makes it hard to know if you're getting a fair quote. One thing I'd add for anyone budgeting: leach field cost can swing a lot depending on soil conditions, so get that tested before you lock in a number, not after. Septic Solutions LLC gave us a range upfront based on a percolation test rather than a flat quote, and it ended up being spot on with zero surprise costs. Definitely ask for that breakdown before committing to a fixed price.

My summerhome is an old farm, 400 years old in the south of France, Europe. When i bought the farm in 1999 there was no septic tank. The former owners went in the stables to do there " business". So in 2000 i made my own septic tank. I went to a special shop and bought a 3000 liter plastic septic tank and transported it with my trailer. Then i began to dig the the hole for the tank, by hand. It took me one and a half day. The tank was placed on soft yellow sand so i could move the thing. It was hot summer and hot is hot in the south of France. So when the tank stood well i filled it with water. All the pipes i also did myself; and the pipes for the field came on a bed of gravel. I transported everything with my trailer. At the end i found out that the whole système had cost me 700 euro.

Really appreciate your videos! I learned so much about Septic Tanks and Leach Fields. Ours was installed while I was not able to be there but got to see some pictures :-) Your Video took all the mystery out of the system for those of us that like to know how things work.

I just retired in August of 24 and moved to Mississippi on 21 acres with a home built in 2010. I never had a septic and knew absolutely nothing about it but your video was extremely helpful.....Septic 101 for Beginners! :) I absolutely enjoy your vids and congrats on 'retirement'.

That’s pretty standard here in Georgia too with the chambers. Recycled tires are a no go here but you can do a gravel and corrugated pipe system in Ga while expensive still considered the best standard system in the business. I am a state certified septic technician in the Atlanta area

$5000 sounds like a great deal! Far less than I would have expected for a complete new system. Lucy you! 😊

This is a well done video - I’m new to your channel but I appreciate the way you take extra time to explain the details (those details matter!)

We always installed risers on the tanks, more convenient, you don't want to be digging up your lawn every 3 to 5 years, always a challenge where to put the extra dirt.
