As a reformed Christian we ought to have the lord's supper every Sunday alongside the word

It would be helpful if you would link to the original video in the notes where these clips come from for those interested.

Reformed churches are moving heavily to Lutheran positions with Federal Vision and the CREC. Most Presbyterians today teach baptismal regeneration, unlike what  they formerly did prior to the 1970's.

Interesting to have stumbled across this channel.<br>At my church the proclamation of the Gospel follows reading of the Law and prayer of confession. When the Gospel is proclaimed the Minister will declare &quot; If you have confessed your sins this day and are trusting in Christ and His righteousness alone for your salvation, then you may be comforted and assured by the promises in His word, that your sins are indeed forgiven and you are not under the condemnation of his law.&quot;<br><br>The Lutherans seem to think about this in a different way.

Help me with the following question. But first let me explain my situation. I live in Sydney, Australia, which has about four or five Lutheran churches, our synod is a mixed bag between conservatives and liberals and then the district is poorly resourced, with many churches shutting down due to aging congregations and a lack of funding. Now, I came out of popular neo-Calvinism, became a Lutheran after graduating from a Roman Catholic university where I studied the liberal arts in philosophy and theology. Yet, after my Lutheran honeymoon period, I quickly became alert to the problems with my localised Lutheran experience. Everything fell apart on the local parish level, including the pastor eventually leaving. After which I left as well to attend a more spiritually vibrant and healthy Reformed church in the same suburb. Now, my understanding of the sacraments is that they are a function of Word and promise connected with a sign, they do not work ex opera operato, neither is there some special virtue attached to the priesthood. So having ruled out those two distinctives, why couldn’t one commune at a Reformed church whilst holding that it purely the Word operating as promise connected to a sign as a bare minimum confession? I suppose what I am getting is whether you think that it necessary for one to commune at a Lutheran church if they come to a Lutheran understanding of the sacraments, if indeed this were not possible, could they not feasibly commune at a non-Lutheran church and receive the same benefits since the Lutheran church has no special monopoly on the sacraments and it is purely a function of the preached Word that makes a sacrament into a sacrament rather than an unsacrament? It would seem that to confess otherwise would be to violate the Word-centred nature of the sacraments and place the authority elsewhere in the hands of the priest as the one presiding or in the rite perhaps or the elements and thereby detract from the preached Word. Would love to hear your thoughts on this reflection.

We Reformed do believe that God works through the sacraments. Just read our confessions; Westminster is particularly clear.

(Large Catechism, Part 5, 42) “… people who deprive themselves of… the sacraments for such a long time are not to be considered Christians.” This is a pretty bold statement, and I still consider my Baptist friends brothers / sisters in Christ anyway 😂

“It is no longer possible to bear the impulsiveness of Luther; his self-love has blinded him to such an extreme that he does not see his own defects and tolerates no contradiction.” – John Calvin

The Reformed believe that God works spiritually (by His Holy Spirit) through the sacraments.

I am worried about how little most Lutherans are concerned about the distinction. I am.abhorred by the reformed theology that makes God the author of evil and calls the cross an idol and wants it removed from Church, like jews and muslims ! Or charismatic &quot;churches&quot;.

Luther would say the reformed are not brothers in the faith though, why does modern lutheranism do?

There’s a lot I like about Luther but unfortunately I can’t get behind his view of the sacraments. I wish I could but i can’t seem to be convinced
