RN of 16 years here. Reasons I’m not sleeping, I work night shifts. Just wanted to weigh in on nurses not questioning doctors. We can actually be held accountable for fulfilling an order that was wrong or harmful, even if given by a doctor. It is absolutely within our scope of practice to question them, whether they like it or not. I have saved a lot of patients from a lot of possible bad outcomes from refusing doctors orders or from straight up telling them it wasn’t a safe order. Shame on all of them. We are patient advocates. Not doctor advocates.

When my son was 9, he came along to a wellness visit for his two year old sister. While there i asked the doctor about a patch of light skin i had noticed on her forehead. Before he could answer , my son said, "that's just vitiligo mom, its fine". The doctor said, it is vitiligo and asked my son how he knew. My son said that a friend he met at camp had it and it was fine, it wouldn't hurt his sister. I hadn't even heard of vitiligo so it hadn't been talked about at home. Kids aren't stupid. Why doctor's wouldn't think Maya wouldn't be educated on her own condition is ridiculous.

The most terrifying aspect about this is that anyone is just one misunderstanding away from being accused of medical abuse while advocating for our children.

Honestly, this doctor should be criminally prosecuted and her license revoked for what she did to this family. Unbelievable. I honestly have no other words.....

Dr. Smith seems to be able to recall in-depth information when she thinks it’s helpful to her but completely goes blank on the info when it comes to the many credible sources that actually dealt with Maya. This was a complete witch hunt & it was disgusting watching her defend herself.

Just hearing that Dr. Smith would tell the mom of those twins straight to her face “I know you’re lying, I know you’re abusing them” absolutely destroys her credit for me. It’s not even close to in her realm to convict people at the hospital based off very little evidence. To determine abuse you are suppose to rule out every other possibility first. Her unprofessionalism is a huge testament to how unqualified she really is.

My anger for this woman burns. What she did to this family can’t be erased. She played God and got it wrong. My heart breaks for the life long pain she has caused this family.

I’m glad the lawyer is drilling sally because she can’t seem to handle it the same way she treated patients and their loved ones. We love when the tables turn!!!!!! This case makes me so angry

The worst thing about CRPS is there is Nothing you can really do for the pain, and to think about your child going through it is even worse

The whole “she’s too well versed on medical terms” is nuts. My dad had cancer my whole childhood. At 3-5 years old I knew words like chemotherapy, radiation, what the ICU was, bloodwork, weakened immune system, lymphoma, oncology… all of it. These were words used in my daily life. I knew the different reasons why my dad was sick what kind of treatments he got etc. it would be weird if I didn’t know

I was in this same hospital during this same time period with my son who was on PICU and I got the same energy from the staff when I was standing my ground against certain tests. It got to the point where they did call dcf. Fortunately dcf sided with us and gave me extra resources to help me but this is just the absolute most heartbreaking thing ever
