  My wife and I are 62.   We live here in California where everything is real expensive.  Rent on the average for a 1 bedroom 1 bath apartment is $2,000/mo.   I am fortunate that I was able to retire early (I started working since age 11).  Thanks to my wife for going back to work after being a stay at home mom for 30 years.   I was able to pay off all our debt (including our home) before I retired but I needed my wife to work so that we had health insurance (she is a teacher and I was an engineer).   I have 4 adult children and 3 are still at home because they can't afford rent in the outside world.   Only 1 of my children has moved to Japan to be a teacher.   In my scenario, me and my wife are still helping my children and not the other way around.  Life is tough around the world.  You just have to make do with what you have.  Keep you chin up.

  I made maximum contributions to Canada Pension Plan for 42 years straight.  When I turned 65 I found out that my pension was $1,350 a month.  Together with my old age pension (OAS) of about $650 a month, I barely collected $2,000.00 a month which is about how much a one-bedroom apartment rents for.  Things were looking promising up until the late 1990s and then it all went to shit in the last 25 years.

  In the UK, people think the elderly are RICH cos some own their own homes and cars, have a State Pension and some have an Occupational pension as well. But people forget, they have planned and worked for it. It's not a benefit and is not given free- it's earned.

  My husband and I left our home country and live well on our social security. It has been over 9 years now.

  I left my job at 58 to return to grad school, graduated with an MBA in 2022, but could not find a job, so I retired.  I have always been a saver, never owned a new car, and always shopped at 2nd hand stores and thrift stores for clothes and household goods.  I was able to purchase my house through the Veterans program.  I am moving to Europe for my retirement. Sadly, the decisions we make when we are young impact our lives when we are old.

  Good video. For fairness, she didn't mention that in rural areas, every one entitled a certain size of farmland based on your rural residency. So this is an income from government that urban residents don't have. Xu's mom's retirement income should be 700 Yuan/Mon plus income from her  farmland.

  You talk about your mum retiring at 56, in the UK at the moment the retirement age is 67 and going up, if you pay National Insurance for 35 years you get about €1000.<br>It’s a struggle when rent is about the same amount.

  Thank you for your nice video. It is really sad and interesting. I am working 45 years in my life and get a pension of 930 Euro every month. Now living in rual Thailand, not so far from you
