The fact that the first priority was to respect and preserve the history of the watch, is what makes our man a master watchmaker.

Minute 16:48: the perfect moment when MyMechanics says "I MAKE NEW ONE!". And he will only be satisfied with the piece once it is mirror-polished.

I noticed you didn't open the mspg barrel before cleaning. I'm guessing with this watch's age it would have a steel mainspring . As a watchmaker myself for 43 years, I was taught to always open the barrel for cleaning, and more so to insure proper drying. Also we always put a couple drops of oil on the spring itself before sealing the barrel again, especially if they were steel springs. It's amazing how the technology of the cleaning and timing machines have changed. We had 2 L&R Ultrasonic cleaners and a Griener timing machine that printed out the timing lines on paper .
My father learned watchmaking and hand engraving in 1947 after the war and came home once a month and taught his younger brother what he had learned because they couldn't afford to send them both to school. They opened a jewelry store together right after he graduated. In 1950 they were hired as watch inspectors for the B&O Railroad. The engineers, breakmen, and conductors were required to have their watches cleaned, inspected and timed once a year. They were both considered masters by the time I went to school and graduated. I graduated from the Joseph Bulova School of Watchmaking in 1977 and was a practicing watchmaker/ jeweler until I retired in 2020. I still do gold and silver repair and ring sizing one day a week for the local jewelry store. I don't do any watch repair any more because my eyes aren't as good as they used to be and my hands aren't as steady , but I always enjoyed my work.

18:05 - without the restoration of the color of the numbers and hands, it just feels wrong leaving it like that.

I havaMy grandfather was an intelligence officer who once served in East Berlin. On one of his returns from duty, he came home with a special edition Longines watch made for the 1972 Munich Olympics. He wore it with great care for years. After he passed away, the watch was passed down to me. Now, it stands as both a keepsake and a silent window into the past. I wanna repair it so bad but i don't trust anyone

Excellent watch commercial. Will there be a commercial for the socks?

I prefer when the original dial and hands are kept, it gives the watch a certain authentic, patina feel.
