The bridge is especially mind blowing the first time you drive to New Orleans and didn't know anything about it like me...lol. All of a sudden you end up in what seems like the middle of the ocean. I've been on it many times since. I don't find it anxiety provoking at all. More than anything it's just an amazing feat of engineering to experience.

The picture labeled 1956 is not the same bridge as the picture labeled 2005. The 1956 picture is of the Causeway across Pontchartrain. The 2005 picture is the Interstate 10 bridge between New Orleans East and Slidell. The Causeway was not destroyed; just slightly damaged compared to the I-10 bridge which at this point has been completely replaced by one tall enough to not be damaged by wave action. The south end is in Metairie; not "Mandary."

I think growing up in New Orleans broke my brain or something. It has never occurred to me to be concerned about the fact that you can't see land when you're in the middle of the Causeway. The fog is definitely worrying, and people often fall asleep while driving across it, but not being able to see land is not remotely bothersome to me. .

I've driven over the Causeway many times and have never suffered any anxiety. One thing to note though is that when they are predicting high winds, they prohibit semis, motorcycles, and trucks carrying glass from crossing.

I grew up in New Orleans ,i have driven that and rode it as a passenger, none of the fear that you talked about ever occurred to me.It is no more scary than a mountain road.you just do it and enjoy the ride !.

I drive the bridge often, at least once a week and it's pretty beautiful at certain times of day. Sunset or sunrise on a calm day makes the sun reflect off the water and the view is surreal. Also, if the fog is just right and the water is calm you can get this effect where you cant see where the water and horizon begin and it's like you're just driving on a bridge among the abyss.

Traveling from the northshore to the southshore on the Lake Pontchatrain causeway on a clear day, you can clearly see the curvature of the Earth. It's pretty cool to see.

The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway was not destroyed and rebuilt. It was the I-10 bridge. You can easily see differences in photos today because the I-10 bridges were rebuilt with three lanes in each direction. You can easily see the difference on old photos of I-10 because it has shoulders between the lanes and the railings, the Causeway has no shoulders.

10:25 that picture isn’t the causeway. That’s the new I-10 Twin Spans (post Katrina) about 20 miles east of the Causeway.

I'm from Ohio. I went to New Orleans back in 2000 with my brother. The highlight of our trip was the causeway. I was excited to go across and never even thought people would lose their nerve driving it.
