This tree rush started back in Europe because they cut down trees for cooking, making furniture, building , smelting of iron , brass, cooper , tin to make cannons , guns and all sort of Stuff. You could say they in Europe were facing a major energy crisis. Some examples to build 1 royal British frigate took 9,000 oak trees to build then multiply that by the thousands of sailing ships built over the centuries. Another big wood hog where castles and church cathedrals that where built out of stone but had massive wood framing structures to hold up the roofs that where covered in slate or lead panels. So when word got back to Europe about the massive forests in America you might say the wood rush was on and the possibility of other raw materials.
