  Robespierre&apos;s terror lasted around 10 months, and roughly 16000 people were guillotined.<br>10 months / 16000 = roughly 27 minutes.<br>This video is twice the average time between guillotine executions during the terror.

  The thing I find crazy is that Lafayette survived all of this too. He fought in the American revolution, in the French revolution, he had it not too bad during Napoleon’s reign and he was eventually asked to become king of Belgium when they seceded from the Netherlands in 1830. Safe to say, he lived during some eventful times

  An aristocrat, his chef and chief engineer were set to be executed during the French Revolution.<br><br>The aristocrat is brought to the guillotine and said &quot;I am not afraid of my mortality. I refuse a blindfold and I wish to be face up so I can look death straight in the eyes!&quot;<br><br>The executioner accepted this request, placed the man in the guillotine and pulled the lever... but nothing happened! The blade did not drop! It was declared an act of God and proof of his innocence, and he was released.<br><br>The chef is brought to the guillotine and requests to be beheaded face up as well. And again, when the executioner pulled the lever, the blade remained motionless! The chef was released and joined his master.<br><br>Finally, the engineer is brought to the executioner. He, too, requests to lie supine. As the executioner is about to pull the lever, the engineer exclaims &quot;OH! I see your problem!&quot;

  Gotta say, your Louis XIV and French Revolution vids are some of your best work. They go into the the far lesser known chapters, that are often omitted from typical documentary/history books because they aren&apos;t important in the grand scheme of events, but are &apos;juicy&apos; from a story telling/drama perspective. Learning about Louis XVI people&apos;s pleasing and Robspiere&apos;s early career really shapes them out as actual people rather than characters.

  Whenever I hear people unironically say something like &quot;we need another french revolution&quot;, I look at them funny because I&apos;m like 99% confident they don&apos;t know anything about the french revolution beyond the king getting guillotined.<br><br>The French Revolution was a chaotic event thatr didn&apos;t even result in permenant change. &nbsp;The current republic came about from a much less violent revolution decades later.

  In an alternate world, Robespierre could have gone down in history as the Washington of the French Revolution, but instead he made a name for himself.
