Bret Easton Ellis is the kind of guy who writes things that are smarter and deeper than he rationally realizes. That&apos;s why he is so fascinating to me.

He&apos;s way more open and straight-up in this interview than in any other I&apos;ve seen

Charlie Rose actually seemed like he was genuinely interested in this interview. I got the vibe he&apos;s a fan of his books.

Brilliant man and an incredible writer. Too many people take his work at face value because they don&apos;t want to think.

Just seeing this interview today and After Glamorama, Bret Easton Ellis moved from flashy, chaotic satire to slower, more personal and psychological writing.<br>His later books focus less on shock and celebrity culture, and more on memory, paranoia, and identity — cleaner prose, more introspection, less spectacle.

Glamorama:10 page sex-in-the-shower scene; terrorists &amp; spies plus models. celebrity money-bags backstabber culture. fashion designers. copious amounts of drugs. sex. wicked humour. told with a heart of gold ambition...a really cool book

He’s one of my favorite writers from a purely technical/stylistic sense. Glamorama is probably my favorite of his books, it’s such wild, funny, and confusing (in the best way possible) story that makes such brilliant use of looong run on sentence monologues and the old unreliable narrator trope in particular. And I know some people think that Victor is a highly unlikable, one note protagonist and I don’t what to say other than all of those people are wrong lol. Victor is great, the perfect vessel for audience to see things through. Such a fun and addicting read, the kind of book you wish could just go on forever as you read it, and when it finally does end it’s almost bittersweet. But you can always just take it from the top again so there’s that.

Still had faith and belief in the adult world… that resonates so much

Charlie blew the question about why Bret is big in Europe by not letting him go where he was going to go with it - Bret is big in Europe for the same reason Bukowski was - they both said the American Dream is a nightmare run by psychos.
