I enjoy your channel immensely! Not related, but what readers are you wearing? I really like their minimalism. 👍

Thanks for this review! Among all the new CD players that have popped up in the last couple of years, this one intrigues me the most. It looks like a lot of fun to use, and it's not priced out of reach for me. Sure, it's not the most "portable" unit, but I feel it's worth it for the extra features it gains. Besides, its size means it can be used as a blunt instrument if necessary.

Second video of the week (Techmoan’s was the first) to mention gapless playback as being something that needs testing for. I can’t quite believe that gappy playback is actually a thing in 2026!! Surely gapless should be a basic standard by now, like “CD spins” or “wires made of metal”!!

Love these little CD players. But really, these should be called “desktop” not “portable.” This isn’t something you can toss in a pocket or handbag. OTOH, it’s ideal for the office, bedside table, mini system in the kitchen with powered speakers, etc.

Ah, I just watched the video without realising that the "DAC" emphasised in the title had solely the USB for digital input.

The last one had a decidedly Korg DAW vibe, but this one leans more Harold Faltermeyer. Anyway, another great review- I'm really interested in this one.

There is one feature that I would like to see in headphone amps (dacs with headphone amps, cd players with headphone amps), is room and speaker emulations, and ideally a multi band EQ for headphone and hearing correction. Room and speaker emulation, you need when listening with headphones because most material is mixed for speakers, where you get a natural crossover between the channels, and when listening to such a source with headphones it sounds vastly different.
On the other hand I think sound engineers should finally get it in to their heads that most people that listen to music critically today do so with headphones and not with nearfield or midfield studio monitors in a treated room, so the default today should be to mix/master for headphones. And it is advantageous as well, mixing for speakers was impossible, too many different playback rooms, and speakers, headphones while very different, becaus they remove the room, and most can properly reproduce quite a bit of low end without most issues, they are much more similar than speakers.
And no engineer should ever distort bass sounds to get overtones just so it gives the illusion of hearing bass on sub par speakers, if people listen to music on poor Bluetooth speakers or on phone or computer speaker they should have to live with the compromise of not hearing bass, if there wasn't overtones to begin with. It impacts the bass sound too much when played back on a system capable of playing back the bass sound, which includes most headphones. Crappy speakers should sound crappy, and peole should understand they don't get the full experience that way.
