  All the time's I've seen this, and all the reactions I've seen to it, and I have NEVER noticed that Copper had a nose ring until you mentioned it, lol.

  During the commentary for the DVD, John Carpenter remarked that Jed was such a skilled actor, he didn't even turn to look at the camera when it panned backwards as he walked forward across the frame.  That never occurred to me.  Jed truly was a good boy.

  Special effects were done by a team of 35 under the lead of Rob Bottin. It took 14 months total, and they took no days off while shooting. Bottin eventually had to go to a hospital due to a number of conditions, including inhaling toxic fumes and exhaustion. They were still running late, so Stan Winston&apos;s studio was called in to help out on a few shots during the kennel transformation sequence. This is mostly the reason why not many films could match these effects - it took <b>a lot</b> of work and time.

  I&apos;m always so impressed about how early in the movie you as a viewer are exactly as in the dark as to who&apos;s the thing now as the characters are.

  Couple little tidbits for you; After blowing up the American camp, they used the remains to film the Norwegian camp. If you spoke Norwegian, theres actually a spoiler at the very beginning. He’s actually shouting, Danger, He’s not a dog. he’s a thing.

  I watched this movie like 50 times.and I just noticed the nose piercing. Amazing for pointing it out.

  I went to Norway to visit my girlfriend and showed her this. Of course I asked her what the guy at the beginning was yelling and she said he was basically saying : What are you f$cking stupid? That&apos;s not a dog it&apos;s a thing! And I said: Well crap. You weren&apos;t supposed to know that yet. Lol
