ORCA: PERCHÉ NON CI ATTACCA?

The orca is one of the ocean's most powerful predators. It can hunt large cetaceans, knock seals off ice floes by creating coordinated waves, and even force great white sharks to abandon certain feeding grounds. Yet attacks on humans in nature remain exceptional events. In this documentary, we discover why the orca belongs to the delphinidae family and is the largest dolphin in existence. We analyze its body, speed, echolocation, and how it interprets its environment through sound. Different groups of orcas may have different diets, hunting techniques, calls, and traditions. Some populations specialize in catching fish, others hunt marine mammals or sharks. These behaviors are learned and passed down through generations. We'll explore how family life works and the role of older females, why in some populations adult offspring remain with their mothers for long periods, and how orcas collaborate during hunting. We'll also discuss their dialects, memory, learning, and encounters between large groups. We'll also analyze the relationship between killer whales and great white sharks, including documented cases of some whales consuming shark livers. We'll then try to understand why humans aren't normally prey for these animals, without attributing human intentions or behavior.
