That's what I call an amazing performance. Lara does not only have a fantastic voice, what really sets her apart is the passion, conviction and sincerity with which she sings. Johnny was also a great singer. He held back here, because he wanted Lara to shine. Some people find this performance over the top, but I like it being theatrical, and it suits the song’s dramatic story.
The orchestra added some epicness to the song too.

Fun fact: Lara was trained to be an opera singer, but decided to dedicate herself to the pop music style because she is an excellent composer and felt freer to compose songs in several languages in the pop music style. Lara sings in Russian, Hebrew, Greek, Turkish, Aezebaijan, Spanish, English, French, Portuguese, Italian, Latin, Flemish/Dutch. She studied bel canto and piano from the age of 8 to 18 at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels (in Belgium), where she had some of the best Opera teachers, she also had the incredible opportunity to be taught by two of the best Italian vocal teachers in Sicily (Italy) when she was between 21 and 25 years old. She has never stopped attending the vocal classes until now, she has two vocal classes (either online or in person) with her bel canto teachers from Italy and Canada. David Foster himself introduced Lara in his DVD recorded in Las Vegas (2010) as "The voice that is on the TOP of the HEAP." Lara can easily sustain a D5 in mixed/chest voice for over 15 seconds. There are videos of her doing this live, or sustaining a C5 in chest voice for 20 seconds with impeccable resonance and without getting out of pitch. Her vocal range is: Studio (D#3 - C#6) / Live ( Eb3 - G#6).
Thank you for the reaction. I really enjoyed this one. ❤
I really would like to see you reacting to Lara performing another of her compositions called "You're Not From Here". There's a short interview before she starts singing where she explains how she discovered music and that she would become a singer, it's an amazing history, she just sings a part of an aria acapella just sitting on a chair, I think it's going to blow your mind. 🤩

Lara Fabian - You're Not From Here (Live PBS concert).
https://youtu.be/Vv8XFXKXRLI?si=DDRlOfGM6H47wrzA

More information about Lara Fabian:

Lara is recognized as one of the best vocalist ever seen on earth and all professionals list her in the top vocalist tier with Barbra, Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Aretha, Shirley Bassey, Lisa Fischer, ....

In my personal opinion, she is even the best.

There are a few vocal characteristics that are her signature: her famous resonance for instance that allows her to sing acapella without mic in venues with 10,000+ attendees. Her nickname in the singing world is "the ring" due to this. I would also list her amazing phrasing, breath management and her pleasant tone even when belting in her upper register.

So she is one of the best vocalist ever, but on top of that, she adds a few things that make her an absolute package with no equivalence:

• she speaks 2 languages natively (french, italian), and 2 others fluently (english, spanish), can speak a bit of dutch (and sicilian), and understand quite well russian and portuguese. She has sung in 15 languages in total

• she is an amazing songwriter and wrote lyrics for 200+ songs, in the 4 languages she speaks fluently. She often co-composes the music, and is at the source of the melodic line.

• she acts and performs on stage as nobody else, she colors and reveals the meaning of every single word in the songs, and her ability to emote, to draw you in is second to none

• she is the sweetest soul on earth, very humble, down to earth and benevolent. She likes to meet others, and her fans are always pleasantly surprised when this happens.

A quick background on her and her career:

She is belgian, her father is flemish and grand mother on father side is dutch, but she also has italian roots (her mother is from sicilia) and American roots ( the father of her mother is from Detroit). She had been raised in Sicilia first for 7 years then in Belgium so she speaks both italian and french as native languages.

She has been classically trained on vocal, piano and songs composition for 10 years ( from 8 to 18) in the Brussels Royal Conservatory.

She is still having vocal lessons and training several times a week today. She only moved away from opera to pop because she is first and foremost a songwriter.

After her Eurovision participation in 1988 (4th), she really started her career in Canada in the early 90s, more precisely in Quebec, the french-speaking part of Canada.

She had been living for years in Montreal and has also Canadian citizenship. She moved to Sicilia end of 2022.

She became very famous in Quebec in the early 90s with several double platine records and then conquered France in 1996/1997 (she topped charts there and some of her songs such as "Je t'aime" or "Tout" became classics of the french music).

In 2000, she was about to penetrate the US Market, with a lot of media initial interest. Her first english song (I will love again), a pop dance song, stayed number one on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart for 58 weeks in a row and was number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Her Album ("Lara Fabian") was about to become a massive hit, and the concert "From Lara With Love" was recorded to be broadcasted everywhere in the US.

This concert is legendary, packed with masterpieces (covered by many great vocalists later on).

But a dispute with Sony on artistry directions, and the will from Celine Dion's staff to block her progress in the US, completely broke this plan.

She thus refocused back on Europe and made huge success there, extending her reach to Eastern Europe and Central Asia where she became an absolute superstar through her collaboration with Igor Krutoy during several years. She is absolutely massive in Russia for instance.

She is also a star in Brazil as her song "Love By Grace", used as the soundtrack for a very famous soap opera, topped the charts for months and become a recurrent in the local singing contests since then.

Many of her songs became classics and were covered by the other singing legends: Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Josh Groban (they are friends and he told she is a role model for him), Linda Eder, …

With her success in Europe, Brazil and part of Asia, she is the inspiration of the new generation of vocalists: most of them are coming from there.

Thru their covers of Lara Fabian songs, USA and many other countries are now rediscovering her.

She is one of Dimash's biggest idols, probably the most influential on the way he sings and performs:

I've read somewhere that, when he was a child, he was listening her songs every night to get asleep.

Lara has been the musical muse of Igor Krutoy during 10 years and Dimash was dreaming to join them on stage.

Igor Krutoy discovered Dimash when he covered Adagio on The Singer contest, and was praised by Lara. Dimash did collaborate with Igor during several years afterwards. Igor came back from retirement and composed severals songs for him.

He covered many of her songs, most of these were composed by Igor Krutoy and written by Lara. Out of my mind I can list:

○ "Adagio" (She wrote it and is the original performer), they sang it recently in duet in London

○ "Mademoiselle Hyde" (she wrote it and is the original performer),

○ "Love of Tired Swans" (she wrote the song in French under the title "Je t'aime encore" and was the original performer of the french then the russian versions, Dimash covered the russian version)

○"Ascolta La Voce" / "Vocalize" (this was a pure vocalization and she was the original performer, then lyrics were added for Dimash and it was rebranded as "Know")

Lara also wrote the lyrics of Dimash's song "Your Love" composed by Igor.

And she covered "Love is like a dream" before him (song from Igor Krutoy originally performed by Alla Pugacheva).

Finally, they also performed "Ti Amo Cosi" together, in trio with Aida Garafulina: this is a song that she performed originally with Dmitri Hvorostovsky and Sumi Jo then again later with Dmitri and Alina Yarovaya, before this new trio with Dimash and Aida.

Many other current generation top vocalists covered her songs:

○Floor Jansen (Adagio),

○Polina Gagarina (Adagio, Je t’aime),

○Diana Ankudinova (Tomorrow is a lie),

○Morissette Amon (Broken Vow),

○Gabriel Henrique (Love by Grace),

○Cakra Khan (Broken Vow),

○Charice Penpengco (Adagio),

○Katrina Velarde (Broken Vow),

○Regine Velasquez (Broken Vow),

○ Dmitri Hvorostovsky (Adagio),

○ Giulia Falcone (Adagio, Caruso, Je suis malade, Je t'aime),

○Forestella (Je suis Malade),

○Almira (from 4th Impact band) (Broken Vow),

○Gigi de Lana (Broken Vow)

○Emily Linge (Adagio)

○Julie Anne san Jose (Adagio, Broken Vow),

○Rimar ( Adagio, Broken Vow, Know),

○Il Divo (Adagio)

○Daria Bentsa (I guess I loved you),

○Sarah Geronimo (Broken Vow)

○Laura Bretan ( Adagio, Caruso),

○Jackie Evancho (Je t’aime, Caruso and Broken Vow, BV rewritten as «Imaginer »by Lara for Jackie),

○ Harrison Craig (Broken Vow),

○ Amir (Je t’aime),

○ Pauline Aguirre (Adagio)),

○George Peris (Broken Vow, Humana),

○Vitas (Adagio),

○Wanessa Camargo (Love by Grace),

○ Anastasia Luna (Adagio),

○ Jeck (Je T’Aime),

○ Evgenia Fanfara (Adagio),

○ Anne Sila (pas sans toi, Tu es mon autre),

○ The Canadian Tenors (Adagio),

○ Anna Eriksson (Je suis malade),

○ Choi Sung Hoon (Je suis malade),

○ Soprano Turetsky band (Adagio),

○ Sarah Naura Irbah (Mademoiselle Hyde),

○Elisabetta Rinaldi (Adagio),

○Alyona Yarushina (Adagio),

○ Marie Payet (Pas sans toi),

○ Laurh (Immortelle),

○ Inger Lise Hope (Adagio),

○Håkon Sønsterud Tollefsrød (Broken Vow),

○Flora Tandi (Bambina),

○Cindy Chao (Yeliel My Angel),

○Majda Roumi (Adagio),

○Abraham Mateo (Adagio),

○Petra Berger (Adagio, Broken Vow),

○Russel Watson (Adagio),

○Katerina Maslova (Je t’aime, I guess I loved you)

○Annointed (Love by Grace),

○Sevara Nazarkhan (Je t’aime)

○....

NB: Lara did cover Caruso , Je suis malade, and Love by grace, these are not her originals, but I mention these here as the related artists were attracted to cover it again after listening to Lara’s version.

Today, Lara still has an amazing voice and tone and can still reach the 5th octave with resonance ; she still offers these emotive renditions that are her unique signature.

In June 2022, she had a very successful tour in Canada and Europe. I attended a concert from this tour. It was packed and she was spectacular as always.

She had another successful tour in Eastern Europe and Central Asia in 2023 then in Canada in april-june 2024. She also appeared as a guest in some big events such as Hauser’s concert in Royal Albert Hall (May 9th 2024).

She just released late November 2024 a brand new album, "Je suis là" (I’m here), a pure gem, packed with beautiful songs with deep moving lyrics.

This triggered a new European tour in June 2025 (the first concert was in London on June 3rd and Dimash was her special guest. They sang her hit Adagio in duet). And since October 2025 and up to April 2026 another tour in France/Belgium/Switzerland.

Meanwhile she participates to many TV shows in different countries.

For instance, in France, she won The Voice France Kids 2024 as a coach with her talent Tim. She will deliver a masterclass, as each year, for Star Academy. And she will be again coach for The Voice France 2026 (adults).

She is recognized as the best vocal coach for these shows in France and Quebec. She is currently a coach for The Voice France 2026.

Sorry if I was long, but I hope this gives some context on Lara.

Johnny Hallyday was a legendary performer who brought the lyrics of the greatest French songwriters to life. Johnny enhanced the songs with his magical voice, his unique phrasing and grandiose interpretations. He embodied, lived the songs he performed. Johnny had an incredible presence, an impressive physique, but above all, a golden voice ! While he didn't write most of his songs, he participated in the creation of several pieces that reveal his artistic soul and personal aspirations. He was always very involved in the song selection and musical direction of his albums. His instincts allowed him to recognize potential hits, and he surrounded himself with the best to create pieces that remain classics today. His voice, charisma, and passion for music will continue to influence generations of people, fans, and artist.

Jean-Philippe Smet, better known as Johnny Hallyday(stage name). He was born in June 15, 1943, in Paris and died on December 5, 2017 in his house in Paris at the age of 74. For J.H funeral, 1 million people gathered on the Champs-Elysées, Place de la Concorde and in front of the Madeleine church and fifteen million more followed this national and popular tribute on their television. He was buried on a French island in Saint-Barthélémy. He is the son of a Belgian father and a French mother. He had four children, two of whom were adopted. In 57 years of career, he recorded around 1300 songs. 180 songs were turned into music videos or scopitones. 758 authors and composers collaborated with him. Artists like Jon Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams, Bono, and many others wrote and composed for JH. He was known to most of the great American, English, and other singers and actors of the time, his talent and voice were recognized by most of the greatest artists in the world. He was even approached in 2001 to record a track for an album(Good Rockin' Tonight:The Legacy of Sun Records)in tribute to the Sun Records studio, many international artists participated in this tribute, JH is the only French singer for this album, he records a version of "Blue Suede Shoes". JH has composed 105 songs for him and a dozen pieces for other artists. He also co-wrote around thirty songs. JH also has 549 duets with 189 different artists on 214 tracks. It was in 1959 that we could hear it for the first time on the radio in the program "Paris cocktail". It was in 1960 that his first 45 rpm record was released. The same year he made his first television appearance in "L'école des vedettes", with the sponsorship of "Line Renaud." Also the same year, "Charles Aznavour" wrote some songs for him, he immediately believed in his talent, he was convinced that JH would have a huge career, he was not wrong ! And even "Édith Piaf" came to see his first concert at the L'Olympia in 1961 ! 57 years later, 93 certifications including 41 gold records, 4 double gold records, 23 platinum records, 8 double platinum records, 5 triple platinum records, and 12 diamond records (including one double diamond and one triple diamond)testify to an exceptional career, crowned by 10 Victories or Special Victories or Music Honor Victory. In 1978, he received the great prize of the national union of authors and composers for the song "Elle m'oublie" from the album "Solitudes à deux". In 2000, he received an Honorary M6 Award for Best Male Artist. He also received two honorary NRJ Music Awards for his career, one in 2003 and the other in 2013. In 2014, he received the Sacem Special Prize, recognizing his entire career. JH is the most acclaimed French artist and the one who has sold the most records in France. It is estimated that 200 million items have been sold, of whom more than 115 million records sold.(The figures given have not been updated for years, unfortunately). Imagine if he had had an international career.. Yet JH has performed in 42 countries, but to be successful abroad, you have to spend time there, but JH didn't have the time or didn't take the time.. To my great personal regret.. With 805000 sales in one week of "Mon pays c'est l'amour"(51st album, posthumous album), JH was ranked No.1 worldwide in 2018. A stage beast recognized by all, JH went on more than 184 tours and attracted nearly 30 million spectators throughout his career, having given more than 3500 concerts. JH is the only French artist whose almost complete works have been recorded in audio and video. JH was also an actor with no less than 43 movies(including appearances)to his credit throughout his career. He received a "Jean Gabin Award" in 2003 for the movie "L'homme du train". Let's get back to the music, JH performed a song that is a hymn to love, peace and freedom, the song is titled "Essayez" from the album "Vie" from 1970 that he sang throughout his career. JH was not only a rocker but also a committed singer, he sang several times for AIDS research with other singers, several of whose songs were created for these occasions, he did concerts to help underprivileged children, handicapped and others for the association(La bonne étoile)that his wife created with a friend and also did concerts for cancer research for the association(Vaincre le cancer). In 1972, JH filled the L'Olympia for an exceptional gala in favor of the league against racism LICRA, bringing together a few singers around him. The following year, he composed and performed a song dedicated to this league against racism called "Le droit de vivre" from the album "Insolitudes". This song will become the theme song of the direct expression show on public channels in the late 70s. He also performed a song that recalls the Tian'anmen square protests in beijing in 1989, the brutal repression, the barbaric massacre by chinese authorities of students and workers who denounced government corruption. The song is titled "Tien an men" from the album "Ça ne change pas un homme" from 1991. The following year, he performs this song during his concert at Bercy. JH was a great friend of animals, he always had dogs in his life, the animal cause was close to his heart and in 2002 he performed a magnificent song against those who abandon their animals. The song is titled "Au bord des routes" from the album "À la vie à la mort". He was a man with a big heart.. In 1985 he received the medal of the city of Paris millenary edition, he was made a knight of Arts and Letters in 1995, he was made a knight of the Legion of Honor in 1997, a medal of honor from the city of Carcassonne in 1999 and he was made an officer of the Order of the Crown(Belgium) in 2001. At the end of 1962, a wax statue of JH was unveiled at the Grévin museum in Paris, it was replaced in 2019 by a new, updated statue. He has sung in several languages:English, Italian, Spanish, Turkish, Japanese and German. By listening to his songs, you will realize that this great singer was capable of singing anything. There is something for everyone: rock'n'roll, blues, R&B, soul, country, ballads, psychedelic rock, soft rock, pop rock, a rock opera album(Hamlet) from 1976(This album was ahead of its time). A rock'n'roll album recorded in Nashville in 1984 with a few American singers, Carl Perkins, Tony Joe White, Stray Cats, Emmylou Harris and Don Everly. A unique voice.. His voice has continued to evolve over the years, becoming more and more powerful and precise. JH can be compared to the greatest singers in the world ! He brought together the rich, the less rich and the poor, including several generations, throughout his career. He has done exceptional concerts with crazy entrances, here are some examples:1984 at the Zénith, JH is inside a giant hand, the arm advances with the hand in a clos🤜fist above the stage until it stops above the audience and in opens🫴(We had to break down a wall). 1993 at the Parc des Princes🏟, he enters from the back of the stadium, passing through the middle of the crowd until arriving at the stage🌉for three consecutive nights.(no one in the world had done that before him)He did the same thing again in 2013 at Bercy. 1998 he arrives by helicopter🚁and descends onto the roof of the Stade de France🏟. 2012, at the Stade de France🏟, he arrived in a giant flying ball, a mine which destroyed the giant screen and then landed on stage. 2016 for his "Rester vivant tour", he is inside a giant skull💀that descends from the ceiling and landed on the stage, splitting open. And so many other magnificent entrances.. Here are some songs:Quelques cris, Vivre pour le meilleur, L'envie, Allumer le feu, Fool for the blues, L'aventure c'est l'aventure, Ce qui tue pas nous rend plus fort, Tu es elle, Que je t'aime, Je te promets, Quelque chose de Tennessee, Pense à moi, Marie, Dandy, Rough town, Laisse moi tomber, Ma religion dans son regard, Guitar hero, Le temps passe(duet), Mon plus beau Noël, Sang pour sang, Aimer vivre"Tour Eiffel 2000", Ça ne change pas un homme, Si tu pars(2005), Apprendre à vivre ensemble(duet with Nanette Workman), Tout au bout de nos peines(duet with Isabelle Boulay), Cadillac, Je ne suis pas un héros"Bercy 91", Requiem pour un fou"Parc des Princes 1993"(1998 duet with Lara Fabian), Derrière l'amour, Gabrielle, Ce que je sais, Les moulins à vent, Voyage au pays des vivants, À tout casser, Fumée, Comme si je devais mourir demain, Le sorcier maudit, J'ai oublié de vivre, La musique que j'aime, Ma gueule, L'instinct, Diego"Bercy 92", Animal, Un jour viendra, I am the blues, De l'amour, La douceur de vivre, La paix, Debout, Pardonne-moi, Vent de panique, La loi du silence(duet with Laura Pausini), Seul au beau milieu d'un lac, Ma main au feu, Non ne me dis pas adieu, Qui ose aimer, Autoportrait, Rock'n'roll attitude, L'amour peut prendre froid(duet with Céline Dion), Je n'ai jamais pleuré, J'la croise tous les matins, Quand le masque tombe, Et puis je sais, J'ai épousé une ombre, Avant, Un rêve à faire, M'arrêter là, Le coeur en deux, Entre chiens et loups, Un monde à part, À propos de mon père, Jamais(duet with Florent Pagny), Je serai là, Mirador, Les vautours, J'oublierai ton nom(duet with Carmel), Le chanteur abandonné, Toi tais-toi, Je reviendrai dans tes bras, On a night like this(duet with Vicky Leandros), Il nous faudra parler d'amour un jour, Jamais seul, Chanter pour ceux qui sont loin de chez eux(duet with Montserrat Caballé), Je suis nu je suis mort, Rester vivant, Il me faudra plus de temps que m'en donnera la vie, Le bol d'or, À nos promesses, Noël interdit, De la race humaine, Le pénitencier, Le feu, La fille aux cheveux clairs, J'aimerais pouvoir encore souffrir comme ça, La guitare fait mal, Pardon, Un cri, Prière pour un ami, Rouler vers l'ouest, Entre mes mains, Noir c'est noir, Love affair(duet with Kathy Mattea), Te savoir près de moi, Fils de personne, Ça ne finira jamais.
