  Stehekin is where my parents met! My moms dad was the ranger and she worked at the lodge. My dad drove the bus to cottonwood. My Aunt moved there permanantly and is married to the captain of the boat you rode in on. I was just there as well, nice video and great interviews with the locals!

  One of my favorite memories was at Stehekin a few years back. We came up on the boat and rented a cabin at the landing. In the morning, we rented bikes and rode up to the bakery. There we were, sitting on the porch with a coffee and pastry, looking out on a splendid July morning on the lake. It was so beautiful that the memory still makes me tear up a little. This town is so special, unique in all the nation, possibly the world!

  Friends of our parents allowed us to use their summer home at Stehekan. &nbsp;At the time the boat to Stehekan was called The Lady of the Lake. &nbsp;She carried the mail and pulled close to the edge of the lake two or three times on the way. &nbsp;Long haired people came to the waters edge and put out a very long bamboo pool. &nbsp;The crew attached their mail to the pole and we continued on. &nbsp;At Stehekan we boarded the mail truck and went about 5 miles. &nbsp;The truck driver stopped at various trees along the way, pulled down a branch that already had a cloths pin on it and attached the mail. &nbsp;The driver let us off at a trail and we hiked 1/4 mile to the cabin. &nbsp;The most beautiful stone cabin you have ever seen. &nbsp;More than a cabin, it was very large, with fully equipped bedrooms, kitchen, living space, and a huge stone fireplace. &nbsp;The front covered sitting porch looked up at a snow capped mountain in the middle of summer. &nbsp;The summer home was truly isolated and obviously built over a long period of time to be such a complete and gorgeous structure.
