Frankly the fact we've got 105 salty comments on the woman's 800 field for 2027 tells us all we are in a peak era.

Jamilla did the 400 and 800, but she was also doing something else.

I'm a could've would've should've 🤣😭. Appreciate the highlight in your video. Since my career was 20+ yrs ago, creatine was still considered 'taboo' a bit (we didn't know if NCAA would ban it or not some of teammate did it offseason to bulk up tho), we didn't have "race patterns" but we did train year round though and our workouts are comparable to todays crop of track sprint runners (my coach learned under John Smith). I like the facts you bring up in your video, history is always a good teacher. I also find it fascinating we have 3 top women with all different 'talents', Femke coming from 4 (but not a true 1/2 sprinter), we got Werro long stride lactate threshold runner, Keely high frequency/efficiency runner type. I expect all 3 to go under the WR barring anything bad happening, especially Keely at Athlos revealing the new speed suit ala Cathy Freeman.
As for the comments, I mean you got fans, you got former track peeps, so you're gonna get a very wide base of comments, it is what it is. I do appreciate you bantering, but don't take with you obviously. Thanks sir!

In my view, Bol only had three options in the Budapest Ultimate.

Lead the race, running along the inside of lane 1.
Sit behind Werro on the inside of lane 1.
Stay half a metre behind Werro, but run along the outer half of lane 1.

For me, option 3 is a reasonable choice when the first lap is being run in 58". If the race were being run at a 56" pace, I would see more reason in sitting behind Werro on the inside of lane 1. But in a race being run at a 58" pace, sitting behind Werro could have meant that other athletes would pass on the outside if the pace slowed, leaving her boxed in. If she chose to lead, she would have had to carry the burden of the race and could easily have been attacked by Werro, as happened in Zurich.

We shouldn't forget that in Zurich, Bol ran 801 metres and Werro 810 according to the race telemetry, and despite that, Werro won in 1:53.70. Leading always comes at a cost, and that cost can also be measured in metres. The faster you run, the greater the cost of leading, obviously, just as the cost of running extra metres also increases.

As for 2027, as you said, it will depend on how much continuity they can maintain in training, and that means avoiding injuries or at least keeping them to a minimum.

I also agree that if Bol improves her aerobic power and VO₂ max, she is likely to lose around half a second to one second of speed over 400 metres. She will still be faster than Werro, but the difference will no longer be as significant.

But there is something that is just as important, if not more so: specificity. Bol probably has roughly the same level over 400 as she does over 800, and if there were an ideal event for her, it would probably be the 600. Werro, on the other hand, has far more aptitude for the 800 than for the 400, so her optimal event from a physiological standpoint is probably the 800. Given that Werro is competing in her optimal event while Bol is not, that gives Werro a certain advantage.

That said, Bol has been a surprise, and running in the 1:54s in her first season over 800 is extraordinary. The question is how much room for improvement she has in terms of her aerobic capacity.

She is not the only 800m runner to have gone under 50 seconds for 400 metres. Leaving aside the case of Kratochvílová, there is the Cuban Ana Fidelia Quirot, who was a sub-50 runner for 400 and a sub-1:55 runner for 800.

I think Werro will be better next year. She has less wear and tear because she has spent fewer years at the elite level, and she is an athlete who is still training with the coach she had as a child, which is very important because the coach knows her very well.

Training women at the elite level is relatively easy in the sense that you can find male training partners to work with in training. This is even more advantageous for a more endurance-oriented athlete like Werro, who will do more kilometres in intervals of between 500 and 1,000 metres, where having athletes who can act as pacemakers is particularly helpful psychologically.

Keely and her team plans for 2028. She needs that time to catchup to Werro

Não existe desafio numa prova individual, pois é cada uma por si. O compromisso de bol é com a prova e não importa com quem estar participando. Existe outras atletas que podem surpreender, mas não dão audiência.

Bol as 49.1 though happened as a non 400 runner. She wasn't training as a 400 hurdler for raw speed like a regular 400m runner. She only has a 22.8 second best outdoors 200m time. She has a GREAT 400M from speed endurance. And what does 800m training help? Speed Endurance.

Femke is an absolute non traditional 400m runner.

I was a PAC10 D1 400m Hurdle runner. It literally translates to greater strength than JUST a 400m runner. About 600m strength without hurdles.

2027 and 2028 will be very interesting for Femke and how this plays out. And I would love to see her run an open 400m AS an 800m runner to see how she clocks.

Thanks for your content 🥂
