A stray cat stumbled through the snow into my car - and so our one cat, one dog road trip began

Yes, you can absolutely tell the difference between a domesticated cat and a feral cat. A domesticated cat wants the normalcy of its life back—the routine, the safety, the familiarity.
It was really kind of you to take that poor cat in. People can be so cruel, dumping their pets just because they’re moving somewhere that doesn’t allow animals, as if the cat will magically be able to take care of itself.
Animals depend on routine. When that routine is suddenly taken away, they don’t understand what’s happening or what to do. If you’ve ever heard the sound a cat makes after being abandoned, it’s absolutely heart-wrenching.

I have no idea what transpired for that cat to end up out there in the winter cold, but I'm glad the cat found a friendly couple willing to feed and house her. I'll take the story at face value and thank them both for taking care of her.

Thank you for rescuing the cat. She's not feral. Someone abandoned her. She's tame. That's why she's so affectionate with people. The most important things a cat needs in a house are a food dish and a litter box. Even the litter box is more important.
Enjoy your travels. You are very kind people.

Thank you so much! That kitty was recently abandoned , when a cat who looks like that but eats the first time like they can't get enough, it's been a couple days if not more since it was fed. It might be someone else's cat and just didn't like being there. Why would it be out there so hungry for affection and food. But clearly not too skinny. Something happened recently to the cat. 😢 Very grateful for the healing help and Love 💕🐾🫶💟♾️

The cat was clearly socialized and accustomed to humans, not wild.
