  Back in the 60’s my parents purchased a set of Encyclopedia Britannica for their young family from a door-to-door salesman. After the sale, the salesman kept calling my dad asking him to write a review/endorsement of the encyclopedias. Well, my dad was busy with a young family and two jobs and found it difficult to find time to write this letter. He finally became so annoyed with the salesman repeatedly calling him that he did write the letter. He wrote, ‘I read all them books. They was good.’

  A friend of mine worked in customer service in a pharmaceutical company.  On his office wall he had framed a complaint from a consumer, who said that this was the worst product he had ever bought.  It was completely useless, accomplished absolutely nothing, was a total waste of money, and furthermore, it tasted awful.  The product was a suppository.

  In my younger years, my grandfather became frustrated at his inability to get a furnace repairman out during a freezing spell. He finally got results after visiting a stationery supply store and sending the  company involved an invitation to a Furnace Party.  I learned from his example, and have done my best to include playful humor into my complaints whenever I can manage it. It almost always gets results, and is easier on my psyche than just being angry.

  The barrel story is a funny Irish song, “Why Paddy’s Not At Work Today” written by Pat Cooksey in 1969.

  Whoever conceived this show is dope. Refreshingly different stand up? best is that it doesnt focus on the performers fame or popularity, The SKILL of interpreting the intonation, timing, nuances, character is huge part of this. The performers didnt write it. Thank you all the actual writers of these letters. Very entertaining. Congratulations!! Thank you.

  The first one about the bricks was written and memorably performed by the eccentric Englishman, musicologist and performer extraordinaire, the one and only Gerard Hoffnung, in an address I believe to the Oxford Union. Check it out. It’s a classic.

  I was just trying to explain to my wife why i was crying with laughter about the boke with his balls trapped in a toilet paper dispenser, I just couldn't do it. As the owner of a set of the equipment in question, I should not have found this story so funny. However, that had me howling with laughter.
