  I met Roberto Duran during a trip to Panama in 2008. My taxi driver said he was always available (while in town) to talk to anyone who showed up to his door. Naturally, I thought this was bullshit but to my surprise when we pulled up to his pad he was outside talking to numerous people. The taxi driver then introduced me and I had an amazing 5 mins conversation with him. I also used to box in Los Angeles and knew one of Roberto's old sparring partners (Randy Shields). Ill never forget that moment. Even though my spanish was limited he still took time to talk to me. Great man inside and out the ring.

  Dominated the lightweight division, with only one loss that he savagely avenged twice, moved up to welter and was the only man to bear SRL in his prime. Moved up to 154 and beat Davey Moore for the Jr. Middleweight title. Challenged Hagler for the 160 title and lost a close decision giving Marvelous the toughest fight of his career. And then at the age of 38 beat the 10 years  younger Iran Barkley who stood at an astounding 6'1" to Duran's 5'7" for the middleweight crown in 1989. His pro career lasted nearly 35 years, from the young age of 16 all the way till he was 50. His record in his prime was 72-1 and he retired with a record of 103-16, with 70 ko's. An absolute legend in the sport of boxing don't let anybody tell you otherwise.

  I met Roberto in the late 70s in Miami at a quality Inn. He used to stay in when he was in town. I used to work there one night after work at the bar called parrots lounge. He was there and I made a compliment about a gold chain he was wearing. He took it off and gave it to me. I still have it till this day. Roberto, if you read this, it’s Omar always thinking about you. You are fantastic person.

  What amazes me most about Duran, is that he is still fine at 70.<br>After all those wars, no slowing of his brain.<br>Must have a skull like a Rhino.<br>Phenomenal.

  Duran only lost when he was not prepared :) Too much party, but his talent was nearly unmatched.<br>This channel is pure gold.
