Survivors don’t lie because they are dishonest. They lie because the truth was never safe around the narcissist. They adapt for survival, hiding pieces of themselves just to avoid the next explosion of rage.

When I suggest something to my husband, he doesn’t listen. But when he meets somebody that suggest the same thing he suddenly agrees.

I'm not comfortable with lying, but lying and withholding information has become necessary for "survival." Anything I share is subject to criticism I would end up defending. Often however, I find myself being transparent for fear of her finding out.
