If you're a Shadow monk, it's almost mandatory to take the Eldritch Adept feat for Devil's Sight. It opens the door for so many shenanigans. (Or beg the DM to let you see through your own darkness like the shadow sorcerers.)
Edit: or play the 2024 version which has this feature built-in.

Silence, does not, however, quiet the voices in your head.

Fun fact:Hobgoblins have a special spy unit of shadow monk hobgoblins it is one of two special ranks in their military, the other one being special mages that only know the destructive spells like fireball to basically stereotypical wizards.

Yeah Shadow Monk does manage to avoid the “single player” effect of the Whispers bard or Assassin rogue, especially thanks to two spells.
Like pass without trace allowed the group to take part in your sneaking/infiltration, while silence let fights happen mostly silently no matter how loud your raging barbarian is.

There's two buffs I would love to see this class get (no idea what it got with the 2024 rules because I haven't seen them). First is it getting either blindsight or the ability to see through magical darkness at some point so that it isn't hindered by it's own darkness. Second, I think Opportunist shouldn't use your reaction so you can do it as many times as their are enemies near you (justified as you being so used to exploiting openings that you do it instinctively and maybe with a caveat that only allows it once during the attacking creatures turn to keep it from being TOO powerful with multi-attacking allies)

Very nice. I hope to see a 2024 Elements Monk video later. And that 2024 Shadow Monk too.

My first character was an assassin rogue, I multiclassed into fighter for echo knight, my next goal was to be a shadow monk. He was going to be "the most assassiny assassin that ever assassined." There was no where you could hide that he couldn't get to. Too bad it all fell apart around level 6 😞
