  I had an add-a-pearl necklace as a child. Very dainty gold chain w one or two fresh water pearls added yearly. Very sweet.

  My first jewel was a gold bangle, as a baby, and I wore it only on Sundays to church until it no longer fit. I still have it. The next around age 7 was a simple gold cross that had been my mother’s. She gave it to me on the morning I was to make my first Communion.

  I'm from the Navajo nation. Traditional navajo jewelry is passed from the grandmother,  mom to daughters. I have had the wonderful pleasure of wearing these heirlooms to my college graduation this past May. I hope to someday pass them to my daughter.

  My mother gave me an I opal ring with matching opal pendant on a gold chain. The opal was found by my stepfather, it wasn't perfect, the gold is 9ct plate, I lost the pendant years ago. I want to have the ring restored to give to one of my granddaughter's. I am the 3rd generation to wear a simple diamond as an engagement ring. It will go to my oldest granddaughter, I will probably give my mother in law's antique engagement ring to the 2nd granddaughter, my sweet youngest granddaughter will receive the opal. By giving to the females, I ensure they stay in the family. (The boys might accidentally give the rings to the wrong person, and our family might lose them.) They aren't much, we aren't rich, we aren't royals, but what we have is what we have.

  in  south Asian cultures  pearls  replaces Gold . The first piece of jewelry any girl receive is pair of gold earrings  and ears are pierced accordingly between the age of 3 months   .at her first birthday . most of girls receive  gold chain , which she can wear   on special occations.. her jewelry collelction will grow  as  per the income of her parents... On her wedding  day , she receives a neckless  adorned  with precious stones and wedding band  by the groom  , and other jewelries from her parents and closest relatives

  Mine was a small engraved 10k gold baby ring that I wore from birth until I outgrew it and I now wear it around my neck on a gold chain at 75.  At 13, I received a single pearl with a sapphire bead on each side, the pearl is my birthstone.  When I'm gone, those both go to my only granddaughter who is now 12.  Hopefully she will have her own daughter who will receive the pieces when the time comes.

  I think mine was a pair of very small and dainty golden loop earrings, just slightly bigger than my nails. It had then been misplaced, but lately i purchased another similar one, and told my mum who is fighting dementia that they were from her when I was young, it delighted her a lot and serves its purpose.

  my mother gave me at 16 the black pearl ring her father had given her at 16 right before he passed . My Twin was given an opal butterfly necklace. She loved that necklace
