"I only read dialogue" THEN READ PLAYS.

It's a disturbing sign of the times we live in that a book is only read for the dialogue. Imagine trying to read something like Lord of the Rings without the amazingly detailed descriptions of places and things. The story wouldn't even make sense.

I had someone leave a 1 star review on my book because she could not "read" it. She said that she only reads dialog and that there was not enough dialog in my book for her to understand what was happening. She said there were too many words in my book.

I find that pauses while reading are important to think about and digest the thoughts.

This is why I ignore all the talk about how writers need to write for readers. I attempt to write the kind of thing I personally aspire to create. If it's inaccessible to low quality readers, so be it. I'm not writing 6th grade porn.

My book read goal will always be 12. This is to ensure I keep reading but I'll never make it a chore! It brings me too much joy! My best year was 50 but most have been 30...however the goal will always be 12.

If you're stopping to think about what you just read, you're already ahead of the pack. This means you're actually engaging with the text, which is the whole point.

Many of the booktalk influencers are salespeople. Their job is to sell, " click on the links below," click, comment, subscribe, across many social media platforms, and is all money for them.
It is their job, any books they buy is a business expense. They also receive books for free to hype.
It is easy to tell the booklovers from the hyping hipsters.

It's so sad that "fast fashion" and "overconsumption-core" has entered our reader space, created by influencers who couldn't care less about literature 😔
