  I’m 59, and about 3 years ago I threw caution to the wind and decided that NOTHING was sacred or worth any money, and I’m now using everything I own in any way I want to, and it feels GREAT!<br> &nbsp;Go ahead and drill a hole in a thrift store cup- YOU CAN’T TAKE IT WITH YOU, &nbsp;and trust me- NO ONE WANTS YOUR STUFF after you’ve departed.

  Great ideas! &nbsp;One thing you can do, if you don’t want to drill holes in the bottom of beautiful or valuable pieces….punch holes in the bottom of plastic containers such as sour cream, cottage cheese or even yogurt containers…anything that might be able to nest inside your new-found treasure. &nbsp;You can also cut them down to size with a scissors or utility knife if need be. Go ahead and plant and cover with a little moss if you need to hide the mechanics. &nbsp;I do this all the time….plants have drainage that you can empty out, with no damage to the decorative container. 😊

  Great ideas!<br>I saved my Moms crockpot that was rusting on the cord, original one from when I was a kid in the 70’s and turned it into a planter for my kitchen.<br>So many memories and makes me smile even more now with the plant

  I love using old and odd things for planters. I have an old toaster that I grow marigolds in every summer. My kids joke that if something breaks Mom will put a plant in it!

  Make sure you ALWAYS put a plastic or glass plate under ceramic. &nbsp;I learned the hard way that water &quot;weeps&quot; out the unsealed bottom over time. &nbsp;I severely damaged an antique buffet before I learned this lesson. &nbsp;😢

  I loved the lanterns with the plants peeking through, but my favorite are always the tins. I grew up in the Caribbean and remember SO MANY plants being grown in repurposed cracker tins, &quot;Clorox&quot; gallons, lard buckets, tea crates, chicken feed sacks, coffee cans...way before plastic became ubiquitous, those were the planters many people chose.

  You have absolutely inspired me to look at items in the thrift store in a different light. Things I would have never purchases before have turned into some of my very favorite DIY&apos;s that I have ever done. Recently I bought an old teapot with a missing lid and created the the CUTEST rusty, crusty floral arrangement for my deck table for Spring. I thank you so much!

  When looking at baskets at the thrift store, always check out the bottom.. I recently found 5 longaberger baskets and whoever did the pricing,obviously had no clue.. I got them SO cheaply.. I’m thinking that someone had passed away and their awesome collection was donated.. I appreciate them so much,and often think of the previous owner and assure them that I am loving and taking good care of their baskets.. when my daughter came over and saw all of those baskets,she fussed at me for wasting money, but I Love baskets and had her look one up.. so Now she knows.. they are such beautiful quality and I love them so much

  Don’t forget that you can use coffee filters after laying down some rocks and that can keep the dirt staying on top.

  I pick up glass dishes, platters, and pie plates at yard sales to use as plant saucers.. &nbsp;Sometimes one can find an orphan crock from a slow cooker. &nbsp;They’re ceramic and make great planters on the larger side.

  I NEVER put dirt directly in the &nbsp;ceramic/nice pots, whether they have a hole or not. My plants are all in clear plastic nursery pots and then they go in their decorative pots. I can clearly see how dry the soil is and keep up on the roots. Saves alot of time and stress guessing.
