I have a hive taking 1 1/2 gallons of syrup a day. It was a hive that had 5 reoccurring swarms and used all resources. I did gain 4 new hives from them but now fighting to keep them fed. It will be nice when Fall flow gets heavy, looking forward to get the Goldenrod honeys. Have another hive that was off the charts on mite load. They were uncapping all brood. After 33g Apiguard treatments 3 times they are brooding well with clean healthy brood. It is just amazing how fast you can turn a hive around and get them healthy again

How would you treat at this time of year if the colony still needs the honey supers on — for food they have stored that wasn’t taken during the spring/summer flow; two, because they still need that space; and lastly, because I would want them on for the fall flow, which seems to be starting due to the pollen coming in and goldenrod blooming? If I need to treat, would I just use OA, and then when I remove the supers in a couple weeks, treat with Apiguard if the mite count warrants it?

Make sure you mix 2 to 1 in September feed heavy in October it is harder to get the water out of the sugar before winter 🥶

My husband is growing colius all over the yard. It is in bloom and has been for almost 2 months. Our honeybees have been in it bringing pollen as well as nectar back to the hive. I am also feeding. It is August 12 in zone 9b. I hope everyone is doing well with their honeybees where they are. The golden rod starts in a few weeks. That is what I feed my bees for the winter. BTW it is 95 with 118 heat index. Just saying

Kamon, thank you for your videos! I’m a 3 year beekeeper in SC and find your stuff super helpful! I only have 6 hives, so I plan on treating all my hives with Formic acid each year. The cost isn’t significant to me. So if I am going to treat all my hives anyhow…then WHY do I need to do a mite wash? I don’t think it hurts my bees to treat them if it’s not really needed, does it?

To clarify, "The products are supposed to work when they are low and keep them low so they never reach this point." I thought 3 per 300 is considered low? Wouldn't varroxsan be fine to use this time of year then?

New beekeeper here: Both my hives showed no mites in August. I plan to test again very soon before October. Should I place the oxalic acid strips during that time as a precaution?

What does your feed consist of? I'm needing to start feeding for winter. Also, I have a swarm that showed up in the back of my apiary. I've checked 7 of my 9 hives and have found the marked queen in all of them, no swarm cells present. It's up 30 feet and hasn't moved in 3 days. Any advice?

Feeding too much syrup after taking too much honey is a recipe for disaster.
