This might be the single greatest sermon on anger I have ever heard.

When you get angry, ask, "What is this big thing that's so important to me that I'm defending?"

Whenever I said that to my mom “You don’t love me!” she’d always would say to me “I may not like you right now but I’ll always love you.” It would always trip me up

I rescued a hot-tempered man for years, and had to do it again and again. Finally, I had to rescue myself from him, as I ended up being the main recipient of his anger.

I know God led me to this sermon. I needed this surgical healing. Pastor Keller described me as the woman that loved her son too much and also the idiocy of my son in such clear detail. I shall follow his teachings...I'm so grateful to God for him.

For people who've experienced abuse in Christian homes it's often coupled with a moral injunction to never be angry about being mistreated. It becomes difficult to heal when we obediently over-manage our own reactive emotions (as fault-worthy and immoral) and focus on our own reactions as the ultimate culprit. We need messages like this about anger to have a chance at healing when covert abusers have so adeptly hijacked scriptural truth to try to box in sensitive and conscientious people as either deserving of or at fault for their own abuse.
