Couldn't agree more. I just returned from a 14 days solo ride in Portugal, Spain, Gibraltar and France. 5614km (3488m) of pure joy with no one to tell me how fast or slow to ride, where or when to stop to take a photo, to have a cup of coffee or to have a lunch break.

There are special vehicles made for people who like to travel in groups. They're called automobiles.

This is the way. Every time I ride with the group I feel out of place.

The second last ride with a friend was 15 years ago, and he rear ended my bike, then didnt want to pay me cash or effect his no claim bonus on his precious insurance policy he had never used in 20 years, until I filled out the forms and forced him to sign it. Then the last guy I rode with 10 years ago was incompetent and slow at riding so I was contantly stopping and waiting for him to catch up to a normal pace. His idea of riding was to have no plans or logistics of time and distance for travel and return, and he slept in so started late in the day and wanted to have 2 hour coffee breaks about every half hour yapping his chops off and checking his messages, so we barely got anywhere, forcing us to ride home in the dark on unfamiliar dangerous winding country roads.<br>Mathematically it gets exponentialy more slow with every extra rider in the group. A biker club run would be totrure.

In 2023 I rode from Germany through Austria, Slowenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania to Greece, to a ferry to Italy, went through Switzerland and back to Germany. I rode alone and it was completely laid back. Before I left I was a bit nervous and asking myself whether or not I would feel alone but I met nice people everywhere. It was a great experience.

Best MC advice I've ever received: "Ride Your Own Ride" (as in don't try to keep up with other riders, don't feel pushed, etc.). I also prefer to ride alone, or with one maybe two good friends, for many of the same reasons you mentioned. Also, I like to get out early and go on long rides, stopping every 100 miles or so for fuel and a stretch. You've got to savor each ride~

98% of the time I ride alone…I like to stop and go as I please…as you said, it’s great therapy!

I always prefer riding alone, I found this video after going for a coffee run today, 225 miles total, sat under a shady tree drinking my cappuccino (thanks Brock Gill). I set my own leisurely pace and took in all the sights and smells. I know there are many of us “loners” out there, I’ll wave when I see you.
