  I cut a slip off of my mother’s rose, dipped it in rooting hormone, and inserted it in my yard at a spot where I wanted it to grow.  Then I placed a large glass jar over the slip and it grew beautifully.

  Most all of my Rose's are from a store's reduced isle. I feel sorry for them dead and dying.They have all thrived and over the years have supplied  many  a cutting for family and friends. I think the Rose's have thanked me for saving them. They do need a lot of cutting back at times, but a welcome smiles as the bloom and grow.

  I have grown roses from cuttings for decades and here’s what I learnt.<br>Not all varieties will grow from cuttings, some are easy, others so-so and some just never co-operate. &nbsp;When you’ve worked that out pick your battle!<br>It’s better to give them extra time in their growing medium, if you transplant them too early (even if they look like growing), they will probably die. &nbsp;Roses are quite capable of putting out new leaves before they’ve got around to growing roots. &nbsp;I usually take my cuttings (at least 10in) when I prune in July/August, (Southern Hemisphere in Australia), about pencil thick semi hardwood, place as many as will go in 12in pots, in potting mix and sand. &nbsp;I dip them in hormones or honey when I remember it! &nbsp;I don’t move them or repot them until there’s some serious growth and sometimes even flowers, they are quite resilient then. &nbsp;It should be fun and every growing plant is a gift!

  Oh my goodness. <br>This video came at exactly the right time.<br>My nephew was buried two days ago and the roses my brother/ his dad put on the grave were absolutely stunning. They looked like velvet. I will be doing this and giving them to my brother for his garden.<br>Thank you for a great video.

  I cut a couple of stems off a rose bush that had the most delicious scent and gorgeous old English flowers, I simply had to try it. I dipped the stems in rooting powder and stuck them in a pot. They&apos;ve been outside in my mini greenhouse all winter and I gently pulled them up to check for signs of life and there are the tiniest, very fine, hair-like roots growing on them. I&apos;m keeping my fingers crossed that they keep growing and I&apos;ll have some lovely smelling roses this summer! ❤❤❤❤

  Very interesting how some developed leaves but barely have any roots. We find the best way to propagate most plants for us is during spring pruning right when our roses or hydrangeas start to show signs of growth. We take about 10” of their branches, scrap off the bottom 3-4” of the outer layer and stick the branches into the ground in a moist and not too sunny area and let nature take care of the rest. We have maybe 80% success rate doing this and now have so many hydrangeas and roses that we don’t have room for more so we just do it for fun and give them to friends who want some. &nbsp;We did this once with a 2 ft long branch from our viburnum opulous Roseum when we were limbing it up and it actually grew and is now 4ft tall.

  The way I&apos;m doing it right now was I took some shoots that came up from under the ground off my dad&apos;s rose bush, I believe they were made by a stem of the plant having been buried for a few months. &nbsp;I planted that straight into soil in my yard. &nbsp;This plant was originally taken from a shoot from my grandfather&apos;s yard so its kind of a neat heritage.

  If you use a clear container like the bottom half of a 2 liter bottle and insert the cuttings along the edge you can see when they grow roots.

  I’m going to follow your video to take cuttings off a neighbor’s rose bush. They passed away and the house was sold to investors as a tear down. I’m in central Texas in Sept and will have to “winter” the cuttings in my garage till Spring. I hope to get roses started for my neighbor’s grandchildren to have. Any advice will be appreciated.
