  How beautifully fitting is it that, when performing the song about Human Heart and Soul beating pure mechanical technical precision, he makes a small mistake, just rolls with it, and the performance winds up amazing.

  Is it just me, or is there something about how he plays the fiddle that gives you goosebumps. Whatever the case may be, he was a legend, and just like the rest of the greats, he will go down in history as one of the ones who pave the way for all country artists who came after.

  Years ago, I was doing a show in Branson, MO. and one of the numbers we did was Devil Went Down.  Though I could actually 'fiddle around' on the violin, I was NOT in any way shape or form qualified to play 'Devil' on stage, still, the producer insisted....soo you can imagine the lump in my throat as we prepared to perform the song for the first time... I swear to God, the full cast comes out on stage and about 20 seconds before we're supposed to start the number, I look down into the audience, and son of a bitch, sitting dead center, 2nd row,, was Charlie Daniels !!!!!!  What did I do?  Well I stopped the show. informed the crowd that the one and only Charlie Daniels was in the house, and I pretty much  begged him to come up on stage and play the song. The crowd went nuts, and damned if he didn't stand up, wave to all those around him, and let one of the female ushers escort him to the stage:). You have to visualize this, we had our female dancers  dressed as skimpily clad demons, all around him, "The Wild Bunch"  male instrumentalists/ singers/dancers backing him up,  and full lighting/smoke effects, stage props and set-  It was a remarkable "Production" in every sense of the word and using MY violin and bow, Charlie 'tuned' it to his own taste, nodded, and he started the number.   It was  truly magical where literally EVERYTHING, from the audience, his voice, the music, the lights, the dancing, his playing and just EVERYTHING literally 'came together'.  When he finished, the crowd went absolutely NUTZ, refusing to let our show continue until they were satisfied that their applauding, screams and shouts had clearly let Charlie know just how much they appreciated  his performance artistry.   Later, as he was preparing to leave he praised my version of The American Trilogy, and told me that he hadn't enjoyed performing Devil so much in years.   One of my very best memories :)

  While I'm not a big fan of country music in general, listening to Charlie Daniels is always a real treat! He just has this knack for getting down to the nitty gritty and playing his heart and soul out for the crowd. As a musician myself, I can and do respect that, no matter what kind of music you happen to play.♥️

  Charlie warned the devil, not just in a fictional song, he kicked ass, a man of family and our creator no mater our interpretation, man of love not hate
