Never worry about the guys trying to trash talk you for going down slower than THEY think you should. It's way better to be the guy they make fun of on the CB than to be be the guy they tell the crash-story about at the coffee counter. <br>ALWAYS REMEMBER: You can go down the hill 1000 times too slow and be able to try again next trip, but you may only get ONE time to try going down too fast.

Thank you for this tip on using my brakes minimally, I am working with a Volvo Automatic but the gears are dropped as needed, they also act as an engine brake, I just scaled the Rockies, highly stressful since I am a new flat bed driver, but to maintain my speed and manage my braking was intense, praise God I made it, Brother, it was the ultimate rush, what you shared that principle helped me understand better, I really appreciate it!

I’m a trucker lady I got anxiety watching you going down that hill 😅😓😳😫 I lost brakes on a 10 wheeler going down the hill n it wasn’t my fault but had to crash behind other truck to stop my truck, mechanic said some brake wire was torn off.. I’m back to driving semi trucks I’m nervous but I know God will help me out !! may God protect and bless you

Any new drivers out there This is a great outline to get you started. I think all new driver should be required to know how to get down the hill without Jake brakes and using a standard transmission. So if things start failing at one point someday they’ll be prepared. I will point out that this is just an outlined for driving with no Jake brakes and a stick shift every single hill has its own way that you have to drive down it. There is no set standard for it particularly out west even that posted speed you’re supposed to run down some hills if you’re driving a stick without a Jake and try to go too slow on some of them you’ll cook your brakes long before you get to the bottom but that’s where experience comes in, but like I said, this is a great outline and the information on road signs is a great outline as well

Monteagle was my first mountain solo. I was nervous, I smelled hot brakes and thought I was gonna die. However, it was the truck in front of me. His trailer brakes were smoking and creating a nice smoke screen all the way down. He eventually pulled off to the side once things leveled out, but he was booking it down the hill.

Monteagle is very deceptive. If you are not paying attention, the grades will catch you off-guard. I had a very exciting decent there once because I had my head in my ass.
