Although it was incredibly painful, especially because I allowed my heart to remain open from beginning to end, it became one of the most transformative experiences of my life. It propelled me into another level of emotional, mental, spiritual, and situational awareness. If you’ve experienced emotional manipulation, betrayal, or the ending of an unhealthy relationship, I know where you are. I know how the weight of another person’s decisions can make you question the love and value you have for yourself. I know the desire to change, to become a better person, and eventually align with a healthier kind of love. I also know how deeply a breakup can affect your sense of self, your willingness to love, your ability to trust yourself, and your belief that you can move forward. I wasn’t perfect in every circumstance, but I continued giving myself permission to adjust and return to the path that was right for me. I hope you find yourself somewhere in this video, even in the parts of your own story you may feel ashamed of. I hope you realize you already possess many of the tools you need, and perhaps you aligned with this conversation at the exact moment you needed it. This is not encouragement to remain in an unsafe situation so someone can continue showing you who they are. I was already navigating my exit. What happened during that process became the evidence I needed to remain anchored in reality and stop romanticizing the relationship after I left. And please, don’t be ashamed of remembering or romanticizing the beautiful parts. There is rarely such a thing as an entirely bad relationship. The good moments are often part of how we got there and why leaving can be so difficult. Healing after a breakup does not require you to pretend none of it mattered.
