  I am a Black American. My family has used a &quot;washing up bowl&quot; for generations. We call it a dish pan. I hadn&apos;t realized it was a British thing.

  Washer and dryer goes in the bathroom here in Sweden, unless you have the space for a dedicated laundry room. Bathroom is already water-proofed, so I guess that&apos;s one of the reasons. Also, having your dirty unmentionables in the kitchen is just weird.

  I’m in Canada and we (like other commenters) call it a dishpan. It is absolutely essential if you don’t have a double sink. That way, you still have access to the drain, can rinse off goop instead of adding it to your washing-up water, and can rinse the soap off the clean dishes without diluting your soapy water.

  The bowl can either be for Washing Up, Wash A Car, Storing Cleaning Supplies and being sick in.<br>Can also be used in any combination if not all options 😅

  Ex architecture student in the UK , there&apos;s a very important reason why UK homes historically had separate hot and cold taps . Usual only in the bathroom it&apos;s because hot water wasn&apos;t usually clean / drinkable and as the UK has lots of &nbsp;old &nbsp;homes / plumbing from the &quot;cholera era&quot; the hot water tank in the loft of our homes would be unsanitary .. so two taps meant chance of contamination .. new combi boilers mean this is a thing of the past .. but we&apos;re British innit set in our ways

  It might be a washing up bowl to some, but to others, it&apos;s a vital piece of equipment when you need to repair a bicycle puncture.

  This &apos;squash&apos; business is common all over Europe. It&apos;s very common in my native Switzerland, Germany and Austria, and I&apos;ve seen it in France too. It&apos;s simply called &apos;Syrup&apos; everywhere here.
