Actually sometimes you know people that were lucky unlike you, you even worked more than them for more years.<br>For example attended better universities like top 30 in the world and received your PhD there. But, others that you know got their PhD from universities ranked 800-1000 in the world, and they are more successful because of luck and having a better mentor, not people that you think are your mentor but keep misleading you, not intentionally though. What you said works only if you do not know other people or their resume. But, once you know you realized how unlucky you are. But I agree we should not stop achieving our goals or find something that maybe useful for us.
