So, GH had a great start thanks to one man: Bruce Lee. But after his death GH struggled and SB took over and won the 70s. GH won the 80s thanks to Jackie and Sammo and a more modern take on the genre.

I'm more of a Dynasty period piece type of guy. I'm a Shaw Brothers fan in that sense.

Shaw focused on classic period wuxia films, while GH excelled at modern kungfu action. Both are great

I think that when you look back after 25 years, there was no doubt that Golden Harvest won the box office overall, but Shaw Brothers won the cultural heart of martial arts. When we think of the biggest cultural moving kung fu movies, most of them came from Shaw Brother's studios. The One-Armed Swordsman. King Boxer. The Five Deadly Venoms. The Cripple Avengers. The 36th Chamber of Shaolin. The 8 Diagram Pole Fighter. The Flying Guillotine. Come Drink With Me. The 5 Elements Ninja. Kid with the Golden Arms. Heroes of the East. Clan Of The White Lotus. The 10 Tigers of Kwantung. I could go on and on. They ALL are helped to steer the kung fu cultural phenomenon so many years later.
