  Buffy had her heart broken by Angel and I don’t think she ever let herself fall that hard again. It’s such a shame as Spike loved her even without a soul and fought to get his soul back to prove he was worth her love. He was a far better man than Angel ever was.

  James Marsters was absolutely masterful as Spike. He had amazing chemistry with every character on the show. Spike is iconic because of his incredible performance.

  One of the biggest problems with comparing Buffy&apos;s love for Angel to her feelings for Spike is that people act as if they&apos;re comparing the same person, when they&apos;re not. The Buffy who loved Angel in Seasons 1–3 was a completely different Buffy from the one we see in Seasons 6–7.<br>Early Buffy was younger, experiencing her first great love, had not died, had not been resurrected, had not gone through years of trauma, loss, depression, and responsibility. She still saw the world in much more idealistic and black-and-white terms. By the time Spike becomes important in her life, Buffy has been through experiences that fundamentally changed her. She has died, been torn out of heaven, struggled with depression, lost people she loved, and developed a far more complicated understanding of morality, love, and human nature. That&apos;s why direct comparisons often feel misleading. People point to how openly and passionately Buffy loved Angel, but they ignore that this was a younger Buffy who was emotionally more open and less damaged.<br>There&apos;s also the issue of Angel versus Spike as vampires. Buffy was always able to draw a very clear line between Angel and Angelus. Angelus was treated as a separate entity, allowing Buffy to preserve her image of Angel as the man she loved. Spike is different. The series presents much more continuity between soulless Spike and ensouled Spike. His memories, personality, devotion to Buffy, and many core aspects of who he is remain intact. That makes Buffy&apos;s relationship with him far more morally and emotionally complicated than her relationship with Angel ever was. Most importantly, we never actually get to see the later, more mature Buffy in a long-term relationship with Angel. We don&apos;t know how Season 7 Buffy would have loved Angel, because the story never gives us that opportunity. As a result, comparing Buffy&apos;s feelings for Angel in Seasons 2–3 to her feelings for Spike in Seasons 6–7 is not really comparing like with like.<br>The comparison would only work if we had seen the older, post-resurrection Buffy interact with Angel under the same circumstances and over the same amount of time. Since we never do, many conclusions about who Buffy &quot;loved more&quot; are based on very different versions of Buffy at very different stages of her life.

  I never realized before how ABUSED Spike was for SO LONG! <br>And the fact that he just kept going back to her, no matter how much she BEAT him and HUMILIATED him with words!<br>Its down right TRAGIC. <br>A &quot;relationship&quot; (if you can even call it that) like this would never be accepted on TV now, unless it was strictly about how to realize you&apos;re being abused and need to remove yourself from the situation.<br><br>Seeing this show for the first time as a very young teen, I never realized all of the horrible abuse, but seeing it now as an adult, it&apos;s downright heartbreaking! And I wish they could have had a much better relationship. 💔

  Man I thought he was hot all those years ago. But I&apos;m more in love with his character now. I&apos;ve been watching these videos for days. James Marsters was amazing as Spike, everything about him.❤

  This TV show will always be so close to my heart, I‘m 40 now but I still love the characters and I will forever love Buffy and Spike together ❤️🥰 no show will ever come close.

  I think Angel had a profound impact on Buffy — to the point of completely changing who she was. Their relationship wasn’t healthy for her, and she came out of it deeply hurt, unable to fully open up or truly love anyone afterward.<br>Angel isn’t responsible for everything, but he is still largely responsible for the way her emotional life unraveled afterward. What happened between them left deep scars, and those scars shaped how she approached every relationship that came after.<br>On top of that, Buffy went through an overwhelming series of traumatic events: dying twice, being torn out of heaven, carrying the constant burden of the Slayer’s destiny, losing her mother, being forced into adulthood too early, protecting her sister at any cost, and dealing with a level of isolation no one around her could truly understand. All of this added to the damage already done.<br><br>What Angel broke goes far beyond her relationship with Riley, but the rest of her trauma only reinforced the chaos in her later relationships, including the one with Spike. After Angel — and everything else she endured — she simply wasn’t the same person anymore.<br>Her relationship with Spike is a clear example of that: she was harsh and even violent at times, and their bond was destructive from the very beginning. Even if season 6 softens things a bit, for me the damage was already done. And the fact that there is no real happy ending just makes it all the more disappointing.
