i stumbled on an interview with Jet and Jackie, the lady asked "who would win a fight between you 2", Jacky points to Jet and Jet humbly says "I'll win because big brother let me" hahaha

I never even once considered either of these two as rivals when I was growing up in the 90s. They just provided different styles of martial arts movies and that was it as far as I was concerned.

What Jackie Chan and Jet Li did was the true essence of the martial arts... they, not only, didn't comment (esp. Jackie Chan) but showed friendship, and didn't fall into the trap. They're true, great martial artists...

When The Forbidden Kingdom came out in 2008, everybody and their mama was in the theater to see these 2 onscreen together.

"What we got instead, was balance"<br>This gets more at the heart of kung fu philosophy than most "fans" care to admit.

It's like asking "Do you like action movies or comedy movies". They both have a place in our hearts and I can't rank one over the other

The world always needed them both, not tear them apart or pick one over the other

Here's an interesting true story about Jet Li that may put him in a different light for some people:<br><br>When he was still a teenager and doing Wushu competitions, he was known for pushing himself even when he was hurt. He even at one time was trying to go through his drills with a broken foot for two days, and didn't say anything because he didn't want to get in trouble. One of the craziest stories was when he ended up bleeding through a performance. He was going through a saber form during a competition, and in the middle of if, his head started to feel wet. He figured he was just sweating profusely because he was pushing himself so hard. But then people around him all started pointing and yelling. He still didn't think anything of it... he just kept going through the form and figured people were just reacting. But when he finished, and went back over to his team, they all were looking at him shocked. Some were even crying. When he asked them why they were acting like that, they told him to look at himself. Only then did he realize that he was covered in blood, and that he was bleeding from his head. He had accidently cut himself while competing, and he didn't even realize it. <br><br>That's how much focus this guy has... which is why it cracks me up when people try to disparage his level of skill. This isn't to take away from Jackie Chan: his skill is legendary, and his training years were outright brutal. But if you check out Li's background, you'll find his is rather similar to Chan's.

born in 72. grew up renting vhs tapes of every martial arts movie i could get my hands on. I never once thought that they had a rivalry, probably because i never read forums or magazines on them. Great video!

1995 would've been the peak time for Jackie & Jet to collaborate instead. That was the year when the Hong Kong Film Awards nominated three JL films for Best Action Choreography (Fist of Legend, New Legend of Shaolin, & Bodyguard from Beijing) but gave the win to JC's Drunken Master 2. Such a monumental matchup at that point could've even been marketed in the west as well. The Forbidden Kingdom was hindered by a Hollywood schedule. American studios rarely provide enough time for martial arts choreography.<br>One thing you didn't mention though is that Once Upon a Time in China was originally supposed to be a reunion for Jackie, Sammo, & Biao. Each one reprising roles that they've played before: Wong Fei-hung, Lam Sai-wing, & Leung Foon respectively. But only Biao was able to stay on the project. JL vs Donnie in OUATIC 2 was also choreographed by Woo-ping.
