  Alistair, I fear your advice to the German centrist parties to focus on foreign policy will not work to win elections. Populations at large do not care about foreign policy, when there are more urgent and visible issues that they care about.<br><br>The centrist parties should be stronger on messaging about the cost of living and of the quality of life.

  Rory&apos;s perception of rural issues is typical of someone looking from the outside in,rather than those actually living it.The overriding issue for rural areas is housing,our offspring cannot find anywhere to live.Anything modest in size is either a second home or airb&amp;b.

  That is a pretty weak segment on Germany tbh. You barely mentioned policy once except vague references to NATO and EU membership positions. People aren’t voting for left and right on those issues.<br><br>Die Linke won Berlin with an overwhelming, razor like focus on housing costs and the cost of living, not Gaza.

  The interviews of yours that I like most are those with retired, experienced politicians that are normally a lot more open and forthcoming than those currently in office. What comes to mind are the John Major, Neil Kinnock, Yanis Varoufakis and Baroness Hale interviews. My absolute favourite interview was the one with the ex MI5/6 chiefs and longer interviews like this would be right up my alley.
