A damper in the stove pipe would slow down the rate of burn in the stove. It can make the wood last longer and create more heat.

Put some tin against the walls behind the stove to reflect heat and put a damper in the stovepipe. It will make all the difference on cold winter days

Walk up to the cabin, instantly start a fire. The fire comes first before anything else. The outside chores get done after the fire has started and is already starting to heat the cabin. Its makes life a lot easier.
