  VHF ham radio is another great way to get help! The ham radio technician license is very easy to get with minimal effort to study and you take it online. The network effect of ham radio (people listening on repeaters statewide and sometimes nationwide) gives it an edge over CB and GMRS bands, despite the radio technology itself being essentially the same

  I was in Moab, lost in a canyon. I still had a little water left. I saw these magnificent 15 foot boulders that were following a spiraling trail, that was gaining elevation away from me, for hundreds of yards, & In front of me was a perfectly round, white boulder. Remember, I'm lost. I think this may be my last day on Earth. I wanted to take a picture so bad but that canyon said..."no"..I heard it. I respected it & I lived to share what I learned in that canyon.

  Excellent episode and information. Having been trained in search and rescue as a Md. Trooper (retired now) it was never surprising to see how folk went off-trail totally ill prepared and equipped.  Excellent  my friend!

  Here in OZ - Satellite phones & EPIRB’s are the go for genuine emergency situations way out back or up in the high country. Love the GX’s new look.

  Great topic and video, much needed info for people who are not familiar with the desert.  I am on the  East Coast humid, over populated and lots or rain and multiple snow events each year. Great info, first person I know that can make the desert seem like a good location. I spent time in a desert and was not for fun. I’m now open to going there for fun lol

  I go fishing on the long range boats out of San Diego and trust me, you want to cover up when you're out there in the sun all day.  I typically wear light color, long sleeve shirts with a hat and a buff or a hat that has neck protection.  Out there you not only need to worry about the harmful rays of the sun from above but they also reflect off the water.  The electrolytes is a good tip.  I hadn't really thought much about that but then we typically just go out to the desert where you are for a few hours at a time.  I love my Lexus GX460.  Super capable, super reliable, great on and off road.
