Considering they murdered half of humanity's population on earth and in space, Zeon got off pretty lightly at the end of the OYW.

What Zeon said : For the freedom of the Spacenoids!
What Zeon did : Massacred the largest number of Spacenoids in the history of the Universal Century.

It's a bold move to start your show with you main character's team committing a Pearl Harbor allegory with billions dead and then showing those same heroes shooting at escaping life boats three minutes later. But Tomino is a bold guy and I respect that he tried so much to make war realistically horrific. Gundam makes you feel sick as you watch it sometimes, but watching people die en masse should make you feel that way.

There's something incredibly melancholic about the launch scene in 2:33 knowing what becomes of them. These ships are the last children of a dying age, entering the world unaware that they are already obsolete.

The battleship Musashi must have evoked the same feeling by the time it was commissioned, entering service two months after Midway.

The citizens of Zeon paid for the entire throttle. It would be an insult to them not to use all of it.

I think this is the first time I've seen Musai cruisers take a hit and not immediately detonate.

Fun fact: If something the size of one of the MSG colonies were to slam into earth, It would likely be an extinction level event.

I love how a whole flight of Zaku's fly directly at a broadside of cruisers pouring fire at them and not a single MS takes a hit...
