The ending with the wife hearing her daughters voice is soooo much better than the one with Samuel being targeted by his ghost

My favorite part of the movie is the repetitive playing of the Carpenters song “We’ve Only Just begun”.

Once “We’ve Only Just Begun” by The Carpenters starts playing, it was over.

John Cusack is definitely underrated. The way he ran the gamut of every human emotion by simply acting to himself (practically) for 90 minutes is very effective in this film. Also one of Stephen King's best short stories. (fun fact: SK reads it in the audiobook version and it is genuinely terrifying. Recommend!)

I think 1408 and the Overlook hotel are both like those living house entity in Dark Tower guarding doors that went dormant long ago, but the entity is still guarding it because it doesn’t know what else to do.

All these comments and not even one single mention of Dante's inferno... which the entire movie is practically an homage to.

I would put this movie on every night for years and fall asleep listening to it. It calmed me like nothing else. I have no idea why.

Years ago my wife and I were in Savannah, GA and stayed at a B&B. We had the upstairs room. It was spooky right out the gate. Everything was old. And it just felt, off in there. But my wife and I are kind of horror buffs and like spooky stuff so we went with it. The first night we stayed there, we had a few drinks and managed to get lost. We were standing on the corner trying to figure out where to go when an older gentleman out of nowhere asks if we are lost. We say yes and he asks the address. I tell him and he smiles and said you were close, it's right there across the street. I look at the address, look at the budling he pointed to, chuckle, and turn to thank him.  There's no one there. To make it even more odd, my wife is looking at me like i am crazy. I ask her where the guy went and she asks me what guy? I said the guy who gave us directions. She says WTF are you talking about you just looked at you phone and realized we were here you dummy. We go in, get to the door, and I swear I hear muffled arguing and a woman's voice, then a muffled shriek. I'm freaked out but my wife said she didn't hear anything and opens the door. Nothing out of the ordinary. I had a hard time falling asleep but i did. The next night we take one of those haunted bus tours around the town. About 4 stops in our bus is right in front of our B&B. Apparently it was haunted. And in the top floor where we were staying, a woman was murdered by a man who apparently gave her directions and followed her in. It was weird. Nothing worth talking about happened from then on, but it was just really really weird.

I could have watched an entire film of John Cusack and Samuel L Jackson shooting the breeze, cutting each other verbally and talking about heavy subjects.
