John Segawa = His truth every day. The man does not eat his cheeks aka teyelya ntama. The truth is, the kind of pure musical discipline and passion Mr. Moses Matovu had is very hard to find. Most of us tukulembeza love ya ssente vs consistent quality. RIP a true Legend of music.

This entire exchange not only pertains to the Afrigo band itself but also illustrates the larger socio-economic challenges faced by the Black community, particularly concerning prosperity;

Even when presented with visible evidence and proof, black people choose to disregard it and offer an unreasonable explanation and consistently engage with elements that evoke positive feelings, while disregarding the evident realities surrounding them.

From this particular viewpoint, I agree with and support Mr. Segawa's perspective, and we will observe how events unfold. However, it will be very painful and difficult to witness if everything transpires as he anticipates it is likely to.

Thank you for the show and this insightful discussion. I believe these conversations are important and should occur more often, as they can ultimately change our perspective and understanding of reality.

One of the earliest statements that the president ever made that provoked my thinking was when he said, "only one man can have a vision".
I resisted that statement. I thought he was being condescending and arrogant.
But it's true.
Afrigo was, Mr Matovu's vision. He left alot of building blocks. A structure. But it was singularly his vision.
Someone charismatic and well respected can pull the band together and create a new vision. But there's no way anyone can carry on the vision.
That's what John is trying to say.
I had the immense pleasure and honour of watching Jimmy Katumba and the Ebonies live as a child. It was magical. To this day, my favourite songs are still their oldies and some where Sam Bagenda redoes Jimmy's old tunes.
I loved Tony Ssenkebejjes okwagalana. Mr Matovu on the sax really killed it. But you note that since Tony, they never did that song again even while Mr Matovu was alive.
Only one man can have a vision. You either buy into it and it succeeds or you have your own and go off to make it a reality.
✌️

Thanks vblife, l agree today with John as bands start and bands end. Icons come and go. 50 years is a long time and time has called on it. Oyo came and Oyo went and a few still crying for a son who is nowhere. Afrigo came and Afrigo will go like any other.

John Ssegawa’s point is simple: a music band works like a team where every member has a specific role. There is a lead singer, a keyboard player, a guitarist, a drummer, and backup vocalists who support the lead singer. Each person contributes differently to the band's success.

When the lead singer dies, retires, or leaves the group, you cannot automatically expect the drummer or keyboard player to step into that role. In many bands, instrumentalists may not sing throughout an entire performance, so leading the band vocally is a completely different responsibility that requires a unique talent and presence.
Take Aerosmith as an example. If lead vocalist Steven Tyler is absent, the band's performance is greatly affected because he is the voice and face of the group.

Similarly, after Chester Bennington passed away, Linkin Park struggled to continue as before because he was the band's distinctive lead vocalist and a central part of its identity.

That is why John Ssegawa's argument makes sense. In Afrigo Band, individuals may be able to take over certain responsibilities, but replacing the unique vocal presence and influence of the late Moses Matovu is not as simple as filling a vacant position. Some roles can be reassigned, but some talents are truly irreplaceable.

The same happened with Goodlyfe Crew after the passing of Mowzey Radio. Although Weasel remained active and later assumed leadership responsibilities, many fans believe the musical chemistry and vocal balance that made the duo successful could never be fully recreated. Radio brought a distinct voice and songwriting ability that defined the group's sound.

In music, every position matters, but not every position is interchangeable. A band can replace a member, but replacing the unique voice that shaped its identity is often the hardest challenge of all.

Ssendi today met someone who looks beyond the surface, listens carefully, and analyses music with a deeper understanding.

I like this man John's honesty without a hitch he is simply pointing out on the things that the remaining band members should iron out for the band to maintain continuity. Hear to learn and pick yourselves up . Thanks John ❤

The way I like John, there’s always something different, something abrupt, something unusual. He is twin with reality, with an eye into the oblivion. He is the only person who ever narrated who the real Alex Mukulu was

For sure, even world over, sustaining bands or music groups is a challenge.
I understand John very well.
The economic/financial system doesn't allow for sustainability beyond the founders.
