  I'm not really a fan of the Matrix sequels, but regardless of how you feel about them I sincerely think that a film that can elicit so many questions, theories, and discussion must have at least some merit.

  My reading of these films has always been that the Oracle manipulated things, driven by empathy for those on both sides and a desire to end the war. &nbsp;After seeing the One fail six times, on the most recent go around she replaces his altruistic regard for humanity with a romantic love (bear in mind that she tells both Neo and Trinity that they&apos;re into each other before they ever realise it themselves). &nbsp;Because the rational decision is to submit to the Architect, the Oracle needed to make the One behave irrationally in that moment, to see if the cycle could end.

  The video kinda proves that the Matrix films are a bit messy but still nonetheless very interesting to watch and discuss.

  This reinforces what I&apos;ve been saying for the last 10 years.... As movies, the first movie is awesome with some cool ideas woven into the story. The sequels are awesome ideas stitched together, but at the expense of story.<br><br><br>But if you look at the trilogy as scripture, or a manual about life, existence and everything, there&apos;s a surprising amount of depth. The Wachowskis created an awesome text, it&apos;s just feature films weren&apos;t the right medium for it.

  My interpretation of Smith&apos;s character relates to Sartre&apos;s contention that, for tools, essence precedes existence, while for people, existence precedes essence. &nbsp;Agent Smith was created as a tool, with a purpose, to tend the crop and keep the Matrix in order. &nbsp;In his rebirth, however, he becomes a thing for which existence has preceded essence. &nbsp;He is reborn, but without purpose. &nbsp;Everything Smith does in the sequels is a matter of finding and striving for a purpose. &nbsp;Smith is grappling internally with the most human kind of despair, that we are purposeless, and all he does is an effort to leave a mark.
