If a seller lists an item as "Brand New", but then knowingly ships a used item, that is absolutely a scam.

A seller misrepresenting an item is scamming somebody

Moral of the story: read the full description (including the exp dates), look at all photos (that usually show the dates), and look closely at all the information in a listing. Some sellers will use other sellers’ photos (totally legal to do) and READ THE MEASUREMENTS PART every time.

I’ve been selling on eBay for 20 years. I would never tape a shoebox, especially Nikes because collectors want the actual shoebox.

I  am a professional eBay seller, this stuff is crazy.  I am so careful about how things get packed, I would never send stuff out with this kind of packaging.

I scored a beautiful chiffon party dress from the 1950s.   The smoke smell was extremely strong.   I put straight vinegar in my steamer and steamed it for about 30 minutes.  It worked and the dress sold for hundreds with a happy customer.    Make sure to remove all vinegar and steam with water before you put the steamer away.

If a seller describes an item as “untested” it means that it is broken. Every time.

I once bought a vintage Singer sewing machine with cabinet.  Looked really nice in photos that couldn’t have been this cabinet.  The box arrived a little banged up but when I opened it the sewing machine was wrapped in news paper and the table’s swing out door was not attached, it had water stains and the veneer was peeling off in two places.  The sewing machine was missing the thread post and didn’t sew very well.  I went to E-Bay and the guy protested the claim but I was smart, I screen shot the description and posted photos and submitted them with what I received.  I also took photos of each step of my opening due to condition of the box.  I agreed to a partial refund, 1/2, because my husband said he could fix it and fix it he did.  Glued veneer, stripped and restrained, tuned the machine and we bought the thread post online.  I was lucky to have a husband to be able to work on this and I have a beautiful cabinet and great machine now.

This info will be a godsend for Ebayers that buy items and have trouble with cigarette smoke removal:  there is a product called Zorbex that comes in a spray bottle.  I had several products, mostly plastic, that the smell was embedded in them.  I talked to the owner of Zorbex and asked if his product would work on polypropylene plastic, and he said yes.  I sprayed them, it's non greasy and dries without residue, left them outdoors for 3 days to make sure, and the smell was gone.  Now here's a caveat:  some smells are so deeply ingrained in the plastic or whatever, that the removal takes the surface smell out, but some time later, the smell from the middle of the product starts to come back to the surface, so reapplication may be necessary.  You can test whether a 2nd application is necessary by putting the item in a ziplock bag for a couple of days.  Take it out, and see if the smell is gone.

Send the doll to a professional cleaner. My Grandmother used to collect these dolls and they did smoke in their house. She used to "send her Baby-Dolls to the Salon". If you can't find one in your area, ask a local Mom & Pop Dry Cleaner or Cobbler.
