I think there was another interview on this channel talking about the same thing (PE and life insurance entanglements) but this guest gave a much better explanation of the problem, appreciate it

I should have worked for a rating agency. Sounds like three-martini lunch every day

This was really an excellent breakdown on how private credit could negatively impact insurance companies. These guys did a superb job of explaining!

The core, fundamental repeating problem in all of these issues is liability being separated from decision making. If you made the decision, You must hold the liability. No rating something without liability. No investing in something without liability. The more direct the decision maker, and the larger their incentive to fudge their analysis and take too much risk, the larger percentage of the liability they must hold.

Great topic; at once, great..., and horrifying. Appreciate y'all shining a light on this accelerating shift facing insurance. Splendid guests.

I have heard (Jeff Walton) state that for Insurers the claims are paid by the incoming Insured’s premiums. A volume of Insured experiencing financial trouble and not paying their Premiums and the same Insured taking policy loans .. both reduce the the Insurer’s collateral

Another thing these guys are too polite to say is that the PE folks have deep pockets, great connections, and a sophisticated understanding of legalities like spawning a reinsurance company in Bermuda to hide risky assets. The state insurance regulators are way under-resourced. They're just overmatched.

The 6 states currently protecting their constituencies from this type of fraud by private financial institutions are Alaska, California, Illinois, Maryland, New Mexico, and West Virginia.<br>The other 44 states will be paying for the bailout of the AI industry and its private finance overlords well into the 2030s.
