These are such good tips. I was lucky to to have seen a lot of Davids videos in the early phase of my riding. It's helped me a ton in developing a safe way to make progress my MTB. I come from friends who say send it! Davids videos are soooo much better and faster progression.

Man, I remember watching a video you posted two seasons ago.
My six year old became obsessed with biking and I decided to buy a hard tail so I could join him. After 20 years of carpentry I was struggling with everything.
I started looking at videos about cornering.
Long story short, you said “if you can’t do a 2 minute horse stance hold, then you shouldn’t be on the bike”
I couldn’t even get into the position 😂
Anyway, I took last season off the bike and have been working on my body since last winter.
I can now do a 5 minute horse stance hold.
I just went out with both my kids. The six year old is now 8, and I felt so much better.
Thank you for direct, honest perspective.
I still have so much to learn, but I feel so much safer working on it now.

Awesome video. You are arming us with self assessment tools :) I am sitting here rewatching all the clips we did with our crew from Saturday Enduro ride and I see so many little mistakes in my own riding. Filming yourself is very very useful. Not for YouTube, for improving and not getting hurt while doing it. With your tips I can look at correct places in my body and movement of lack there of. Thank you for this.

Hi Dave, I'm one of those four women that watch your channel! I am retired and 60 years old and regularly ride, black diamond trails in Reno/Tahoe, I own a Specialized Levo EMTB. I find your suggestions very helpful. I love the platform stance and use it regularly now. Question: I can't find help for managing sharp dips followed immediately by a steep climb, forming a tight “V” shape. I feel a strong compression force (Gs) at the bottom because there’s little to no flat section. How do you handle these gracefully?

Great video and instructions as always. I'm a strong blue rider at 3 years of experience in trail riding and still need to hone my skills in steep technical descents, the stuff that's in black diamond territory. We have a trail here in Southeast Michigan in the Pontiac Lake recreation area in Waterford Township that is an awesome teacher for me, and most descents have roots with what seems like big dropoffs when approaching on bike, but when I get off and analyze the terrain on the side of the trail, I see that it really isn't that bad. Besides pushing my feet apart on pedals when they're leveled, that's the other thing I need to work on because these trails will definitely play mind games with you.

Well. I’m retired and live in Whistler. So there’s that. You always give me something to work on or at least think about.

Do you still need to drop your front pedal heels and rear pedal toes even while riding using clipless pedals?
