I’ve always loved horses, but this video gave me a completely different level of respect for draft breeds like the Shire. The way you described them as “living giants” was honestly beautiful and kind of emotional to hear. It’s easy to forget that animals like these helped build entire economies long before machines existed. Seeing how calm and gentle they are despite their massive size was incredible, especially knowing how much trust existed between humans and horses back then. The part about endangered breeds really hit me hard because once these bloodlines disappear, we lose a piece of history forever. Does anyone here actually work with Shires or other draft horses in real life? I’d love to hear what it feels like standing next to one of these giants.

As someone who grew up around horses, I can say this video captured something a lot of people don’t understand about large animals. True strength is usually calm, controlled, and quiet, and that’s exactly the feeling Shire horses give off. The footage of them moving through the mist almost felt unreal, like watching something from another century walk into modern times. I also appreciated the reminder that these animals aren’t toys or status symbols because too many people underestimate the level of care giant breeds require. Feeding, hoof care, land, vet costs, and training are serious commitments, especially for horses this massive. At the same time, I love hearing that some farms are bringing draft horses back into sustainable agriculture. It makes me wonder if these breeds could actually become more important again in the future.

This video was so much more than just “look how big this horse is.” I really appreciated how much attention was given to responsibility, care, and animal welfare instead of treating these horses like attractions. The comparison between the Shire, Clydesdale, Belgian Draft, and Percheron was fascinating because you could really see how each breed developed for a different purpose. Personally, I think the Suffolk Punch story was the saddest and most important part of the whole video. Imagine serving humanity for centuries and then slowly disappearing because technology moved on. I honestly think preserving these breeds matters, not just for history, but because animals like this still teach us patience, partnership, and respect for nature. Curious which breed surprised everyone else the most?

I have worked with a gentle giant and it was a good experience. I also watched my granddad replace his shoes -- more than 10" diameter.
