Mate is definitely an acquired taste. Us Argentinians drink it for the first time as kids (because we see the adults doing it so ofc we wanna do it) and we hate it, but we pretend we like it to look cool. Then as pre teens or teens we drink it occasionally with friends or family. And then when you start college or start working, you are studying at like 3 am, you see the mate in your home, you decide to just drink it to pass time, or it's 7 am in you job, you are basically a zombi and a coworker hands you a mate, and THAT'S when you become addicted and then you can never let it go, you need it to survive. So yeah, an acquired taste that you develop throughout your life 😆

it’s natural for us argentinians to always invite people over for dinner even if we don’t know them really! it’s part of the culture. so always feel welcome ❤

That spot in San Telmo (4:15) has an amazing story! It's Casa de los Ezeiza
It went from being an aristocrats home to a migrant conventillo (like a collective housing place where MANY newly arrived migrants lived).

There was a yellow fever outbreak in BA, so the Ezeizas' went "nope" and abandoned it for fancier neighbourhoods.
So many years later, it was overtaken by up to 32 migrant families...! Insane.
Every time I visit, I can only imagine the vibrant chaos of all those families living there, all speaking different languages and trying to understand each other.

Also fun fact: It's what we call a "Casa Chorizo" cause if you look at it from a cenital view, it is literally a chorizo (v on brand for Argentina 🥩)
