  While in Montreal, Jackie's wife was walking home carrying groceries. She was confronted by 4 French Canadien teenage boys. Two reached out for her grocery bags. One saw that she looked scared and said in broken English. "We are partisans of..we are fans of Jackie. We carry your bags for you." They took her bags home and asked her to wish Jackie good luck. She never forgot that. When Howard Cosell asked Jackie in an interview how he felt getting home he said "I always love returning to Montréal" After Montréal won the league championship, a newspaper said "This must be the first time a black man was running from a white crowd with love in their hearts. Jackie's family still visit Montréal in part, for the way the people there treated their grandparents.

  Banting creating Insulin and Tommy Douglas creating our universal healthcare should've been on the list.

  Tommy Douglas was voted the greatest Canadian of all time for giving us Universal Health Care. I agree with that vote as it along with our Dr. Banting and insulin has saved millions of lives around the world.

  robinson and his wife loved montreal, he was very respected for who he was and what he did and was surprised by the acceptance of the people. of the city.

  Just like the Narrator said, these played mostly during after school programming and during Saturday morning cartoons.  Being a bit of a history buff, I'd often look up the whole story in the school library after seeing one.  These were a great way to encourage young Canadians to learn their history.  When you are watching a medical drama that involves some sort of neuro surgery, listen for them to ask for the "Pennfield" which is a surgical instrument named for Wilder Pennfield .

  A great part of the Robinson story is that when he first played in an American city he was booed all the time he was on the field. The favour however was returned when the American team played in Montreal they were booed for the entire game.

  As Canadians, this is the importance of the Heritage Minutes during their time for young viewers, and why I would like for them to be continued on all formats for today's generations.  Our history begins, and continues with the indigenous peoples at the origins; they ARE, indeed, here today.  Indigenous culture is our living history and it should be embraced and told along with white, colonizer history, as well as the histories of others welcomed into our cultural mosaic.  People came as colonizers from Europe; then brought others from other lands, yet denied them rights as human beings... but we can -- and will -- make reconciliation a reality, people.   As a professor of mine once said at university, "if we [as Canadians] don't tell our own stories, regardless of how ugly... who will?"

  The first baseball game was documented as being played in Canada by a visitor from Colorado and written in a Denver newspaper.  This occurred months before the Coopertown game.

  I have to admit I got a little choked-up watching. I'm happy we could share these moments of our history with you. Not only do  those events make us who we are, the Heritage Minutes themselves are a historical part of us. There were several left out, Sitting Bull, invention of Penicillin, Valor Road,  the Chines workers on the Western railroad was glossed-over but it's a big one. The Halifax Explosion always sticks with me most because that's home.

  I am 77 years old and when I was a child Jackie Robinson was loved by sports fans and still is.
