Great video… the greatest part for me was seeing you and your dad hanging out and working together. My dad passed sometime ago and your video brought back memories of us loading up an old 12 foot aluminum in the bed of the truck every weekend and heading to the lake!
Don’t take times like these for granted!
God Bless
Psalm 118:24 KJV
Matthew 4:19 KJV

Most relatable part: "Watch this, I'm going to wind my dad up and tell him it's still leaking." Dad's' not fooled for even a second. Dads always know.

Man…..you saved that beast. That was a lot of work and patience but you did it right. I like that paint you used on the floor it has a good texture. Looks like using the systems roller gave you a good texture. Your dad is one of the good guys.

Well done, and I'm jealous of your Dads garage. I also got rid of the 250 pound fisherman that was always burning up my gas and never clipping in. It was the 250 pounds of soaked flotation under the floor of my all welded 18 x 56 Go Devil. My floors are 1/8 aluminum screwed down, and I replaced the flotation with empty 1 qt. oil containers and used swimming pool noodles to fill in spaces. They fit in perfect under the floor, now my 60hp doesn't have to work so hard. My flotation will never get water logged again.

When there is a lot of leaking rivets a good professional welder can be your best friend.

Can always spray the outside hull from bottom to top, above waterline with bed liner makes them waterproof and tough, be sure to strip it clean first !

New subscriber here — great work!

For anyone dealing with leaking rivets, here’s a little clarification that might help:

Rivet sets are what go in the air gun.
Bucking bars are the steel tools used to form the shop head (the inside/bucked head).

For structural work, you want AD hardness rivets (usually marked with a small dot on the button head).
Avoid “SO” hardness rivets — they’re soft, unmarked, and not intended for structural use.

When installing a rivet, you should have about 1½ times the rivet diameter protruding past the material before bucking.
For example, a 3/16" rivet should stick out roughly 9/32" (~0.28") before driving.

When driving the rivet:
It helps to hit it firmly and consistently while keeping the rivet set steady on the button head.
The rivet work-hardens as you drive it, which makes it progressively harder to form the proper shop head.
Final shop head diameter should be about 1½ times the rivet diameter (~0.28" in this example).

For removal:
Use a sharp drill bit the same size as the rivet shank.
Drill straight through if possible.
Use a punch the same size as the bit to snap the head off.
Drive the remaining shank through.

And sometimes, minor leaks can be fixed simply by carefully re-driving the existing factory rivets.

My gosh…that was an epic run-through on a restoration. Didn’t go over the top, terrific view of the why and the how…and showed the good, bad and ugly. Just excellent work all around. As you would say “ well it’s getting late and we’re hungry so we’re gonna call it a day.”
